Found this researching Linkman in New York.  Remembered reading on the forum that Louis Linkman came from New York and there was one reference on the forum that Louis' fathers name might be Marcel and his mothers name was Marie Gabrielle LeBlanc Linkman.

This might be a repeat of info already shared on the forum but Ive never seen it.

Marcel Linkman made Meerschaum pipes in New York 1878-1879

Lower right on page 134

So M.Linkman & Co. could be named for Louis' father Marcel

I don't remember any mention of Linkmans father here--but then I don't remember a lot of things!  Brings up the question of who actually started the company in Chicago. What happened to Marcel (if he is actually Louis's father) and .....
Interesting find !

Here's the post from LocoMac8 (RJ) replying to a quote from DRBridges, where Marcel is identified as Louis' father, and other info given.  It appears that the search engine RJ was using provided a few brief views of the National Republic article for RJ during searching, and his appeal at the end is to get the entire article to read, copy, and post it.

But I want to see the rest of the article. National Republic Vol 35, 1947. Appears the San Antonio College Library may be the nearest access to it.

It appears to be a lengthy article on Louis Linkman.

I agree.  The article seems much more in depth than the 1940s article that appeared in PIPE LOVERS.  For instance, in one of those snippet views I found out quite a bit about Linkman.  He was actually born in Marseilles, France on March 3rd, 1868.  His father was Marcel Linkman, who was an Austrian and his mother was Marie Gabrielle LeBlanc Linkman, who was French.  They moved to New York City when Louis was four years old and his father died soon thereafter.

And then there is this snippet, "At the age of, her son Louis went to work for Weiss Brothers, pipe jobbers. On August 14, 1891, Mr. Linkman married ... Mrs. Louis Linkman made display cards and sewed the pipes on the cards, while Mr. Linkman went on the road to sell ..."

Fantastic info -- we just need to see it all!!!  --RJ--
