I just read on another forum Bill Taylor, maker of Ashton pipes, passed away today. I don't have any details, but his death is a loss to the entire pipe smoking fraternity. He was the last man to be an apprentice at Dunhill and probably the last of the old-time English pipemakers.
I can't say I knew him, but I've met him several times over the years and liked him a lot. He was very informed about pipe making, the old English firms and a very funny man. He was always at his best with a pint in his hand at the end of the day. He didn't think much of American beer, though.
He will be missed.
Terry

Thanks Terry.
I met Mr. Taylor several years ago..over a pint and a bourbon....Only a meeting at a bar at a convention. I remember thinking that I could have talked to him for ages...ted
