Yes some of the guys there were banned with no reason given
Sf even let a couple of its mods go because they tried to stand up for what was right
Since SF decided to treat the members as children instead of the adults many asked about a forum for adults in adult conversations
So a standing member of SF decided to build this forum
Everyone is welcome so just join in anytime you feel is right

New ForumThanks Dave!! Now I gotta spend another hour each day in front of this computer!! Beats mowing the grass!! Looks like it will be a good forum.

You didn't want to mow the grass anyway
It makes good hiding place for rabbits and squirrels during hunting season
And kids love getting lost in tall grass lol

OS, Yes, I'd like to lose a grandchild or two in the grass. but MOMMA would be grumpy. We don't want MOMMA grumpy, Do we?
I'm a member of SF, and the problem I have with them is that no-one there recognizes the contribution that Grabow made to this whole industry/pipe smoking phenom.Think I've posted twice...I have no plans to join this new Forum nor post anything else on SF.
During WWII, Grabow and KYM kept the troops in pipes while the European pipe makers were quacking in their boots. Today, there is no recognition of the contribution that these 2 fine companies made. Doug Allen's talk is close, but doesn't hit the heart of the matter. Without Grabow and KYM there would be very few pipe smokers who could enjoy the craft. We would be pipe smoking free!
I've seen a great many posts about soldiers who started smoking a pipe (Grabow or KYM) during the war. How many of your fathers or grandfathers started smoking a pipe during WWII?
I firmly believe that Grabow and KYM deserve a place in history for keeping this wonderful hobby/habit going during the most trying time in history. SF, nor any other Forum, other than this one, recognized this fact.
This Forum, Thanks to R.J., David and Tom Martin recognige that significance. I'm proud to be a member.......And which other Forum has a "field trip" to Sparta? ......ted

Ted SF leans more toward higher grade pipes and customs
This new forum I hope will cover all pipes and tobacco including grabows, kaywoodies and OTC tobacco
I enjoy and own them and they are already a few there that are like me
I hope you change your mind and look around because we will need someone that has info on the older brand pipes

Dave, Thanks for the post. I realize that there are wonderful pipes other than Grabow/KYM.
Mastercraft introduced me to Parker-Hardcastle, Buzzi Enea..Brebbia, Many French pipes, Jeantet, Jima...the Rossi brothers, GIGI pipe, Gasparini, Strambach along with Marxman and several others.
SF neither recognized the Grabow/KYM contribution, nor recognized pipes other than the "snobbery"(if that's a word) of the $1000.00 pipes.
If the new Forum will recognize the "common folks" among them and recognize that not everyone has or wants a pipe that is so expensive then hopefully it will flourish.
An old Appalachia term comes to mind.....Don't get above yer raisin'. Don't, and I'll watch, and when the time is right, I'll contribute.
I wish you the best, 'cause like OS, I need another place to visit....regards...ted

Ted, may I suggest this forum? Seems to be a lot of 'good old boys' from our neck of the woods who hang out there. Of course, there're still some who look down their noses at Dr G's. I've found that's true of almost any forum I'm familiar with, though.

Ted, what is KYM?

Sorry Wes, Kaywoodie, Yellow Bowl, and Medico. My acronym for the S.M. Frank Co.
They were Grabow's biggest competitor.

Ted after reading your posts I realized what you said is true of most forums
The over the counter pipes are disregarded in the most part
I myself own a lot of them and they are good smokers
So I decided we would have a group for OTC pipes and OTC tobacco
Maybe others will like to post and discuss both
Thank you for the sugestion
