Another newb pipes upSorry, couldn't resist the pun.
My name is Tom, and after living for 22 years in Michigan, I recently re-located to Indianapolis for a job. Since I am on my own down here until the family joins me after school's out in June, I decided to try out pipe smoking (no wife to stop me). And I love it! So, I'm a 42 yr old 'virgin'.
I bought my first pipe, a no-name H.I.S., and my 2nd pipe, the Grabow Starfire 84 I posted about elsewhere here. I love the Grabow, and think them a mighty fine smoke, tho others have more impressive pedigrees, and price tags that would cause a Scotchman to have a stroke.
I think that I am lucky to live now, for while pipe smoking is drastically smaller than it once was, there are lots of fine pipes available at near-scrap prices.

Welcome aboard, Tom. There's lots to learn, and many fine experts available on this board. Take advantage of their vast knowledge. Lord knows, I have. I'd have to agree with you: this is probably the "Golden Age' of pipe smoking, despite all the anti-'s.

Welcome Tom. Guess I'll have to stop calling you Hussar now. I'm glad you enjoy your DG pipe, but you really can't appreciate a DG pipe until you have spent a few hundred dollars on higher quality pipes only to discover the DG smokes just as good, if not better.
Since your wife isn't there to watch your spending, you can rely on us to help you control your buying impulses. Everyone here is a fine example of prudent investment and self-control.

Welcome Tom! Glad you are enjoying the pipe. Grabow collecting is addicting, at least to me. Where did you live in Michigan? My wife was born in Port Huron and lived all around the state as her dad moved with his job.
Glad you found this board, it's a great place to hang out.
Take care and enjoy.

I can quit anytime I want. ... In fact I have quit ... dozens of times.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone!
Steve, I spent the past 7 years in Spring Arbor, near Jackson. Before that, another 8 years in Lansing. Was born in Chicago but finished high school in Grand Haven. So, all around the state, LOL.
