another NEWBIEGreetings all! I've been lurking on this site for about a month now. I feel like I already know most of you fellas, ted, Mac, OS, Steverino. I had hoped to make the trip to Sparta, but it just wasn't in the cards. Been smoking Dr.Gs since I was 22. (56 now) I have a collection of about 30 or more Dr. Gs with 14 in my current rotation. Mosty bent Dukes, Golden Dukes, Omega, and yes, OS, even a bent Lark. Started out with a Dr.G and PA. SWR Aromatic is my main smoke now. Like to mix it with some Stokebye Whiskey, or French Vanilla, and really treat myself with some Navy Flake. Looking forward to chatting with you folks. This seems to be the place to be. The pics posted from the Sparta event are fantastic, kickin' myself in the arse for missing it. We travel a lot to NC, my wife is a native. I plan to be there next time.

Welcome BW! Always glad when someone else joins the group and it's great that you are already an accomplished Grabow collector and smoker!
I am currently adding more captions to the photos as I get time, so if there was a photo of the Pipe Factory tour that you couldn't figure out, give them another look and maybe the explantion will be there. If you still have questions, then we have just the fellow here on the Forum to ask! --RJ-- (Mac)

Sure glad you finally burned that 79! We were getting tired of passing that stuff around in our wheeling and dealing. Burned out LARKs have potential -- Mixture 79 never did . . . --RJ--

Hi BW and welcome to DGCF, we're glad to have you here. If you get the opportunity, snap some pictures of the pipes you've got and post them. We enjoy seeing what each other collects - remember, if you have more than one pipe, you're a collector!
Best,
Steve

Thanks to everyone for the warm welcome. Like I said in my initial post, I hate that I missed out on the Sparta trip. I look forward to a future opportunity to meet as many of you as I can face to face. I am just 5 hours away from Dr.G HQ and I still have plenty of vacation on the books.
I spent most of the morning digging through my utility room looking for a box of pipes I put away about three to four years ago. I have a couple of Bulldogs in there that I miss. I'll try to get my "collection" posted soon. I never set out to be a collector, more of a pack rat!

Aren't we all? I have pipes, tobacco, racks, stands, magazines, and anything else pertaining to tobacco and pipes everywhere. Fortunately for me, my wife is very understanding about my quirks.
Welcome to the Forum. Jump right in. If you want to know something about Dr Grabow, Mac, Ted, or DrB can probably answer off the tops of their heads. I've never known a more well-informed group of people.

Here's a shot of my current home office/smoking room rotation, less the three in the car and a couple at the office. I've got about thirty Dr.Gs all told, plus a couple more on the way from OS. I say 'about', because I still can't find the box I put away four years ago with my bulldogs in it. I've also included in the shot a couple of pipes I would love to have. Can you tell which ones?
The bent 'anything' is my favorite shape. My two favorite pipes out of this bunch are a pair of bent Golden Dukes. Bought them both at the same time, exactly twenty years ago this month on my way to Long Beach on Oak Island.

Looks like you need more bent pipes!! I really like that 1/8th bent Prince. I have one that I'm working now. Didn't have stem and the shank has a crack at the mortise. Finish is nice so I'm working inside the mortise to fix it-I think! Found another Stem to fit to it. Nice group of pipes including the two extras !

I was just chuckling to myself -- the thread is NEWBIE, but within a few days, already many posts and contributions, and an "old head" at the DGCF!!! --RJ--

Yeah, I guess it is -- I didn't really think about the lingo. Happens after you work at the same thing for 34 years, I guess. Kind of like a sailor, I suppose. Every once in a while I slip and use some term or phrase in my normal conversations outside of work and I'll get a "what was that?" Maybe I should have said an "old pro!" --RJ--
