any adjustomatics out there for trade??I've recently decided that i'm a grabow man, instead of a kaywoodie man so if you have any adjustos that you would be willing to part with email me at jgp6204@att.net and we'll see if we can work a deal. basically looking for good solid adjustos and in particular something with a dublin or zulu look to it. I really like the starfire 3/4 bent also, is that an adjusto or filter?. also looking for a big pipe. thanks, ahgar |

Ahgar, there are a blue million of them on ebay if you don't mind using ebay. Not really a million, but lots. Look for Starfires, Viscounts, Commodores, Eldorados, Regals, Westbrooks, what else guys, my memory is failing me at the moment. | ||||

I've looked at ebay quite a bit and noticed a common thread. they want money, i'm a trader by nature and by circumstance. so i figured i might pick up a pipe i want and get rid of a few i don't. I love the starfire 3/4 bent listed on ebay right now, is that an adjusto or filter. i've got a few filter grabows that i smoke without the filter but i just prefer the adjustos. thanks, ahgar | ||||

ahgar,all of the pipes Steve listed above do not use filters. The Duke lines(Golden,Silver,Crown,Royal etc) use filters as well as the Berwycks. | ||||

ahgar,Berwycks were a Grabow coupon pipe if I remember right from what Ted or DR.b of RJ or someone said.All of mine are screw stem,filtered pipes,some are ajusto. | ||||

I'm uncertain about the COLOR VISCOUNT. Hopefully ted or Mac can describe it. Some late model ELDORADO are push tenon, with or without a tampon. |

Barry,nope! Only thing I have done to this pipe is buff the bowl a little. As RJ noted it still has the price tag on the stem,and the stem is oxidized!! I haven't shined up the stem because of that tag!! I guess I could peel it off and glue it back on!? |

BTW...what kind of paint did they use on those color pipes? I've only owned one of those, it was a white one back in the 80s. I beat it up so bad it looked like trash. I was ashamed to be seen with it. I did eventually refinish it, but don't know what ultimately happened to it. | ||||

I'm not sure what kind of paint it is Barry. Maybe Ted can tell us. If I was going to repaint one I think I'd use some high temp engine enamel! | ||||

Now that I think about it, since they were shooting clear lacquer for finishes, they probably used colored lacquer.
Dries fast and can be easily buffed out. |

Yep, got 14 of those, so I can spare a couple. They are from a set of stickers that were used to update the displays that a retailer already had, I think. Or maybe they were used at the factory for putting on the displays. Anyway, I got an envelope of the stickers that is only marked, "ONE SET". The only thing I have done with them is used one of the "header" stickers as a bumper sticker on my truck. --RJ-- |

A special enamel that has to be resistant to heat...inside and out...and moisture...inside and out. Grabow started making the white Viscount in 1967 or 1968 as a copy of the KYM White Briar. The other colors came around in the next few years. You have probably seen some white ones with decals on them....1980 Olympics.... and maybe several college colors with decals...Clemson, Syracuse, NC State, and UNC.....ted |

RJ, These "packages" of bit stickers and priced labels were sent to retailers whenever Grabow had a price increase. The retailer would tell us which display he had in his store, and we had "kits" made up for all our displays. We sent the right "kit" and expected the retailer to change the prices. In most cases the retailer did because the price change meant more money in his pocket. This was a much better way than having all the display units returned to us so we could do it.....ted |
