Anyone ever notice this while smoking? My coal has a spot in the very middle that is black, while all around it is the orange embers. Did I pack it too tight in the middle or what?

It's probably just ash. The unburnt tobacco will probably burn under it. You could try clearing the ash from the top to see if this helps. A lot of people seem to swear by leaving the ash alone, though. I've done it both ways.

Agree with Steverino, it would be only ash

Yes, it tastes nasty if you stir it up and relight.

Thanks guys. I also noticed that it's burning in a cone shape, when I scrape the ash away it's deeper in the middle of the bowl. What gives?

You're an egg sucker, AH, just like me and Sir Duke. You will see a reversed cone if you draw too hard and too fast on a cigar. I think the solution is to try to relax, and let the bowl smolder slowly.

Thats why some of my smokes taste acid/amonia like at the end. I stir whats left up to smoke it all to the bottom of the bowl
