baccerPlayed golf today with a fellow I'd never met. After a few holes he had seen me smoke a Kool or two. He looked into my cart and saw a can of SKOAL, and a Grabow, and some SWR.
He asked if I really use that much tobacco? I said, I also chew Levi Garrett, and smoke cigars, and if I could find another delivery method, I'd try that.
HRUMPH' he said.
He had a thermos full of Vodka.
Who gets the last HRUMPH'......TED

ted, you could honestly say you owe your life and livelihood to tobacco.
When anti-tobacco folks have questioned my use, I've told them my tobacco pipe has saved my life many times. If they persist, I tell them if it were not for my pipe on many lonely late night drives to keep me alert and awake I would have died in a ditch along some highway.
If you're looking for an agricultural crop that has destroyed human lives you need look no further than "King Cotton." Cotton and sugar cane. Modest tobacco has improved lives, inspired hope, saved communities and nurtured families.

You're welcome, ted.
I said "modest tobacco" because typical tobacco farms are small acreage family operations. They are not the large tract farms found in grain and cotton operations.
And tobacco nearly was the only farm crop that could be produced in the upland Appalachian areas. Tobacco and moonshine were about the only choices for a family that wanted to stay and survive.

We've certainly had our share of both tobacco farmers and moonshiners (sometimes one and the same person) in my family.

When someone says, "Tobacco kills", I usually retort, "So do automobiles, and in more ways than one . . ."
I guess you could have said to the inquiring person that your smoking a pipe probably just saved THEIR life as well, as its calming effect helped you overcome the sudden urge to kill THEM. --RJ--
