Carey and Duncan HillOK, one more time..... I also got from RJ a Carey "magic inch", and two Duncan Hill Aerosphere.
They allow extra air into the smoke stream which is not what I want when smoking a pipe. I've never really liked Carey, Aerosphere, Boda, or Alpha Dialite. All work off the same principle.
The Carey is a brown sandblast #69ish with very little use. One Aerosphere is a smooth #49ish with a lucite bit. been smoked quiet a bit. A little of OS's magic steel wool, some elbow grease, and spit will clean it up nicely. The other Aero.. is also smooth with a lucite bit, 1/4 (or more) bent and an #11ish. Been smoked hard, but will clean up easier than the pot. Practically no cake in any of them.
Bill Miller owned both companies in the 80's. He made several trips to Sparta. We sold stummels to him for both Duncan Hill and Carey.
Will swap for "little to nothing". Offers???.....ted

The Duncan Hill Aerosphere's sell great on e-bay but not the Carey's. I've got 4 or 5 Carey Magic Inch that I can't even sell at $7.99 refurbished!

I picked up a bunch of Carey's in a deal a few years ago. I've had all of them retrofitted with regular push stems. They all smoke pretty good now. I also have a Duncan Hill that I've fixed. A drop of super glue over that little hole does wonders for its smoking quality, too.

Ted,that was an offer! I'll get them in the mail. I have only one Duncan(two if you count the one I turned into a filter pipe) and it smokes good. If I don't like them-- they make a nice tamper.

The Mastercraft is a cool looking pipe, but after I got it it just wasn't my cup of tea! I think I only smoked it once. It has a deep bowl!

I'd have to agree with you Lefty about the Carey's. I had two like new Carey's that I practically had to give away a while back!!

Re: Swap [/quote]
Ed. got the pipes today thank you so much. Gotta' tell you a tale...
I had, in 1965, failed out of the University of NC.
My father said "Get a job", so I applied at "Sparta Pipes". I was hired because my old Principal (John Woodruff) said something about me having the most "inate ability" of any student he'd ever seen.
I worked in the Spring of 66' and went back to College in the Summer of 66'. Back to the pipe factory late in 66'. Back and forth between College and work till 1969. I was drafted in June 1969, and served till June 1971.
Got out in June, 1971, and was promised a full time job at the Pipe Factory, when I got out. They did and I started at $125 per week
In 1972, UST, Who bought the Pipe Factory in 1969, bought Mastercraft and I was made "Operations Manager".
First job was to help unload 17 tractor-trailer loads of pipes from
New York City. God only knows how many went to the "storage" site (Lentz Moving and Storage) in Winston-Salem out of the Mastercraft warehouse.
After 3 years in and around Grabow, I wanted to see pipes that were unusual. THIS PIPE was the first UNUSUAL pipe I saw out of the Mastercraft inventory
Made by Fratelli Rossi in Varese, Italy, it is one of my fondest memories of Mastercraft and Grabow
Saw it on E-Bay and wanted it, but couldn't......Today, I own it...Thank you so much Ed....That's why your next pipe (Golden Duke or otherwise) is free.........Thanks again.....ted
