If I did reviews on tobaccoreviews.com

If I did reviews on tobaccoreviews.com, I'd adopt the moniker "Cherry Picker."

I fully intended on doing so but the cherry blends aren't in there database so much because they're not cool!

I sent some of my cherry blend (Mon Cherry) to you in the mail. Its not over the top cherry which I think is a good thing. Not really quality life though.

Here's the "recipe": 8oz. Admirals Blend Cherry, 12 oz. Smokers Pride Golden Burley-Cavendish Blend (the stuff they sell at CVS). Mix in a big owl texas style bread bowl, let it breathe overnight and jar.

I look forward to trying your MOn Cherry.  I hope the Smoker's Pride Burley Cavendish blend is better then their Whiskey and their Natural Blend!  I got those as a gift from my Sister-in-Law and have been suffering through them hoping I can finish them.  NO, can't just throw it away, it's tobacco!
drbridges

I copied and saved the recipe for Mon Cherry. Makes a nice sunrise blend. Bites a little because its cherry. Not too nosey.  You should slow down during sunrise anyway.

I think with this drugstore baccy's the key is AIRING them out. It doesnt seem to dry the baccy. The intent is to rid it of all the humidicants.. the polypropylwatchmacallits.
Sir Duke

Indeed!

On the deck early am as we speak. Birds chirping. Beautiful.

I'll be popping a tin of MacBarens Cherry Ambrosia sometime this summer. When I do I'll post some to y'all (a texas contraction). Its a 3.5 o tin so I can share.

Mac's also got me intruiged with PA Cherry. Must find some!

CARTER HALL

After much search I finally went to a Discount Cigarette/Tobacco shop and bought some CARTER HALL.

Impression after my first bowl: Light and mellow. Can't say anything bad about it. Except after smoking MON CHERRY much of this week, I was accustomed to tongue blisters. I had to keep rechecking the CARTER HALL to see if my pipe was still lit.

Also bought some Camel Snus at this shop. Haven't tried it. Don't know if I will, but thought I would keep it for emergencies in smoke-free environments.
LokoMac8

Cherry Ambrosia

You don't have to send me any of that!  I have a tin of it.  In my opinion, it was a BIG disappointment.  The only fancy smancy tobacco I really liked and was relatively impressed by was McClelland Tobacco Company's PREMIUM AROMATIC "BEST OF SHOW".  I'd like to try more of McClelland's stuff -- just can't afford to make any of it my regular smoke, the stuff is too expensive.  I don't know if I will try any more MacBaren's tobacco or not -- tried several over the years and like Tom Martin says on occasion, "it left me wishing I had smoked of Carter Hall instead".
drbridges

Spent a day recently in Austin visiting our son. Austin has some anti-tobacco municipal laws, so I tried the Camel Snus. Wasn't bad. No spitting. No nasty taste. Wasn't really aware it was a tobacco product. I went most of the afternoon with the Snus and no pipe.

Haven't touched the stuff again, but maybe it satisfied something.
Sir Duke

I looked into Snus

... didn't think it would "do it" for me for want of ritual.

I was eager to try a cherry tobacco, but discovered all the poor reviews of them on tobaccoreviews.com!  As Sir Duke said, they don't seem to be "cool."  I finally decided on Lane's #TK6 Toasted Light Cherry...it's pretty good!  Very mild and a light cherry aroma.

I live in a university town that's not very smoking-friendly.  I'm thinking this might be the one I choose to smoke on a quiet evening on the balcony...I live on the top floor, but if the neighbors do happen to pick up the aroma, maybe they won't mind.
Sir Duke

I think Dr. Bridges Advice was sound

I think Dr. Bridges Advice was sound about The Carter Hall, Sir Walter Raleighand Princ Albert.

Their "old School" but like Grabows, there's a reason they sell tons of it AND are still selling it. They seem to do nice in Grabows. Botique blends tend to want High Grade pipes. Its weird. Kinda the way some heigh end cars need high Octane. These days Im glad mine takes the 87!

CH, PA, and SWR are good starters. Cherry Blends are weird. They can fry your toungue in a heart beat so therefor not appropriate for someone just taking to the pipe. And the smokers who have been at it for years turn their noses up at it... speaking of which, you hit the nail on the head re: "room note" others might find the aroma more pleasing than you find the smoke.

I don't disrespect the high end quality pipes or toalso believ you can get "good stuff cheap" I actually feel BLESSED that I am "easily"pleased with less expensive tobacco. I went to school for Restaurant management and did some "cheffing" as well, and you wouldn't believ how many chefs would rather have a burger than something "fancy". I'm one for them.

If I were a condemned man and had a last meal request, it'd be b cheeseburge, O-rings, and a Guiness. I'd have a hard time choosing a tobacco though but, in the running -- top five-- would be what the DR perscribed: Carter Hall, Prince Albert,  and Sir Walter RAliegh.

I'd glady send you tsamples of the fiorst two, but as far as Sir WAlter Raliegh is concerned, I'm a Sir Walter Raliegh AROMATIC fan through-and-through (also "much maligned") You decide.

Some guys like me just like to "Rock the Old School" I'm thinkin of pickin up a VCR one of these days... Rolling Eyes Hit me up if you dont want to invesrt in whole tubs of CH, and PA...

I had picked up a pouch of Prince Albert when I bought my Omega...I like it a lot.  I keep that pouch at work for my lunch hour.  I'll try the Carter Hall and Sir Walter Raleigh Aromatic as well, thanks for the suggestions!

My first tobacco came in a "Peterson gift pack" I had purchased.  It included tins of their "Old Dublin" and "Irish Oak" tobaccos.  They were okay...but after sampling milder, more aromatic blends since then, I'm finding it hard to go back to either of those two.

Since I'm just starting out I thought I'd just sample a number of types of tobaccos to learn my likes and dislikes.  With nothing else to go on, I poured over the reviews at tobaccoreviews.com.  So far, I've enjoyed mild aromatics, which gives me an idea of what direction to go...and if they turn out to be inexpensive brands, all the better!  (I'm a cheeseburger and rings man, too, though I might go with a vanilla milkshake if it was a last meal.)
Dave

For myself I chose a tobacco with no bite and good taste

In aromatics my choices are
Lanes 1Q Vanilla flavored( its the same as Captain Blacl Royal without Preservivtives)

Lanes TK6 -cherry

Burleys
PA
CH
SWR

I can take these and smoke them with enjoyment
I can also mix some together and make a great smoke
such as PA & CH 50/50 a great smoke
Sir Duke

Will try the Lanes (I think I have but will give her another go)

Will try the PA/CH mix too. Thank you. TOm
ozark southpaw

I like the SWR in the orange pouch but dont care to much for the Aromatic in the black pouch. I have a couple of oz. of Peter Stokkebye Cherry that I bought a while back, dont like it! Anybody want it?
drbridges

Give it to Sir Duke. He can smoke anything.

I'd like it, Ed, as I am always looking for a cherry I think I would like.  Love the smell,  but am always disappointed when I am the one smoking it as it usually bites me too harshly.  One day I hope to find the cherry I like.  --RJ--

Dave, I appreciate your "report" on these tobaccos.  Seeing as how we like some similar things, I feel better about trying those you have listed I haven't tried yet.  I also thank you for including the Lanes reference number -- I still want to find the ultimate Cherry that I am looking for, and maybe you will have found the one that suits me!  --RJ--
Sir Duke

Send it to Mac.

If the smoke travels through that long stem and still bites him he might as wet smoke a rattler!

(I can't smoke anything... the good stuff makes me sick!  Rolling Eyes )

I think you will like the TK6
It is one of the best cherries I have found
There is no bite as long as it's not extremely wet
The flavor lasts all the way to the bottom of the bowl

It's available at most places a lot of local tobacconist use it for their own store brands

Thanks again, Dave!  I will have to ask my two local shops about this.  Sometimes they get a bit secretive about what they use in their store blends, but they should be able to tell me a simple "yes" or "no" in regard to TK6.  --RJ--
Dave

most shops will use either Lane's or altadis bulk blends

I actually bought some the other day with
ERR
SWR
Walnut

And they called it a proper english lol
Sir Duke

Good show Dave!

Whenever im in the mood for Cherry, I always go for Middletons Cherry.
I like it because it's not goopy or real sweet.

You might as well go for the canned version now, especially if you have to make a long trip. Sorry for giving you a yearning for Mids. Cherry.
Damn, now I want some!    Confused
drbridges

Thankfully I'm immune the Cherry blend temptations ...

But please don't discuss Mixture 79. I never won't the jones for that stuff again.
Sir Duke

Went with the Lanes when I got home.

79 79 79 79 79 79 79 ,

Dont know That I want to sock up on anything more than an ounce and a half of Middleton Cherry though. It lasts me....
GrabowGuy

79

Yea I agree. I tryed a pouch of #79, smoked the whole thing.
I'd much rather smoke Middletons Cherry.
79 is just too much!
Gig

Top Black Cherry was one of my first smokes, never again Sad
GrabowGuy

How about Paladin Black Cherry!
Half & Half, flavored with Robitussin DM!
 YUCK!! I can't believe such an aweful blend as this { and #79 as well }
has stuck around for so long. While good blends like Edgeworth RR, Middletons
London Dock, Middletons #5, The HOW blends, and many others got ousted?
Just don't make no damn sense to me.
drbridges

I had completely forgotten Paladin Black Cherry! It's gone?

There is a God in Heaven, and He loves us.
GrabowGuy

No. The Pal Blk. CH. is still around!
It should be gone, it's terrible!
drbridges

You have demoralized my faith, GrabowGuy. What's the use believing in a loving God that would leave Paladin Black Cherry here on Earth?
Sir Duke

drbridges wrote:

Because maybe they dont have it in heaven.

So far, for me the Lanes seems the best Cherry but I have some set aside I havent yet tried...

God has left the Devil on this earth too for now, until the time comes that he gets thrown into the lake of fire, so maybe God left
Paladin Black Cherry for the Devil to smoke!
Afterall, that's all that scoundrel deserves.   Laughing
Sir Duke
