Deluxe 9705

Just got this in today. It's a shape I've never seen and cannot find on any charts I have. Both the 1949 and the 1937 Linkman charts show an 05 as a billiard.
It's been badly abused and was probably never cleaned. I could tell from the Ebay pics that it was in pretty bad shape but since I've never seen this shape bought it anyway. Anybody ever saw one of these?

JWM

Love the shape.....can't wait to see you work your magic and bring it back to life!
Eric

Unique shape for sure Ed, Looking forward to seeing you bring this old soldier back to life!

Cheers,--Eric

Don't think I'll be working much magic on this one. I will ( eventually) clean and shine it up but that rim is beat down too far to top and I don't want to reshape the rim. If it were a common shape I'd make it look like a pear or something.
Eric

Ed, you can definitely tell the owner of this ole Grabow really enjoyed smoking this Pipe. Shows you the durability and quality of Dr.Gabow Pipes! enjoy it friend!

Nope, never saw one of those, but then that probably does not mean a lot either. Interesting.  Surely has been beaten severly bout the head and shoulders, so to speak.  Shame.

I've certainly never seen that shape, and like the others am looking forward to seeing what you do with it Ed. Congrats on the find sir.

Great find.
Ed do you have this shape on a Linkamns or Grabow shape chart?
I cant find it on the ones I have.

Ed,

Glad you got that one!  I had bookmarked it just to watch, because it looked so different.  I have no idea of the history, but I think it's fair to say it's a rare one.  Another fine addition!

I can't find it on any chart I have.  I'd guess this one is from the late 40's -early 50's. Maybe they borrowed a shape from Van Roy or HLT.
Piffyr

Sorry. I don't know anything about it, except that it's awesome. I see some beautiful grain lurking under there. Do your stuff, Ed!

Just to get the shape back...why not briar grindings and CA?

That's the first I've seen in that shape. I know a flat topping would alter the looks too much, but ( just brainstorming here) what if you give a rearward canted topping. Just smooth out the rim but keep the same angle it has now?

Either way, it's still a cool and rare example. Nice score.

I have not ever seen that shape neither , cool find Ed.

I like it, I'm sure you'll make it pretty but I would like to see that top re-built too, such a rare shape. Whatever you do to it, want to see pictures.

Unusual shape - can't say I have ever seen one. Work your usual magic.
acaciavet

I bet she cleans up great

When I finally get around to this one I just may do that. It's a shame this pipe is so badly beat up !
