Dr Grabow DeluxeHello group, just stumbled into the Forum, Wished I had found it long ago,
One of my favorite pipes is a Grabow Deluxe, Full Bent, On the right side it is stamped 9704, left side Dr Grabow Deluxe over Imported Briar
the Stem has the White spade on top, pointing toward the mouth end.
it has a stinger that is not detachable from the stem. I'd like to know any info on its origins, mfg dates, etc. I bought it on Ebay abought 2 years ago in Very nice condition, It serves me Well in my rotation and only gets McClelland 5110
Dark English. Really nice grain detail. A keeper 4 sure.
thank you for any info.

Welcome to the fold Dave! I cant answer your question although I've probably read the answer on this forum somewhere-see signature. Those Deluxes are nice little pipes ! I recently refinished the one I have. DRB or Mac or Ted will tell you more about your pipe.

Dave...Welcome....Glad to have you.
The Deluxe was before my time so we'll have to leave the "real" information up to David and Mac. You might check out Mac's grabow site. He's got a bunch of info...
Anyway, Welcome. Come back often.....ted

Welcome to the DGCF, Dave. Happy to have another Texan on board, especially another bay rat.
We will have to help you acquire some more DG pipes. DGAD I believe we label it. Two years is just too long.
Your DG DELUXE sold for $1.50, and was made 1945 + or - 2 years. Came from the Dr. Grabow Pipe Co. of Chicago, and fashioned by the M. Linkman &. Co.

Ah! One I missed. Just kidding -- I also like the old bents.
You'll find more info on this forum, but if it has a SHIELD stamped in the top of the shank, two metal dot inserts or a metal circle embedded in the top of the shank, then it is probably pre-WWII. Without those, it will be post-WWII. That's the easy part. Dr. Grabow didn't make it very easy to "date" our pipes, but with a picture or two we might be able to narrow it down a bit more, but even then, maybe only to say it could be late-1940s or early 1950s.
Welcome to the forum! --RJ--

It has a spade, so it won't have a shield, circle or dots, but it does have the 4-digit number stamp. This leads me to guess it came out around the time DGPC was started (Oct. 1944).

Good point -- I read it but didn't pay attention to the details. That's what I get for responding while in Sparta and my mind is filled to the brim with all the new stuff I'm taking in . . . --RJ--
