Well, that was quick.  I thought you meant a "good" home . . .  --RJ--
Sir Duke

I promised ted that I'd fix the Calabash and send it back. He was glad to hrar it but didn't want it back. I did fix it but was to find it was a BRIAR calabash which made it a bit more difficult than had it been a gourd.

I turned a new bowl from Olve Wood from Bethlehem. It fits nice and has a nice draw. The rim of the bowl and the rim of the pipe don't really set as well as I would have liked but I did my best. It smokes nice. The original brair insert was dropped into the Atalantic Ocean! If it should drift buy anyone on the coast or even across the pond, please send it back.

This pipe has found a good home and along with the Viking Jr., now reside in Boston. I feel fortunate to be raising them right. Thanks ted!

A.B.S.O.L.U.T.E.L.Y. FANTASTIC. What a restoration. For its size it was always a comfortable smoke. I hope you enjoy it as much as i have  enjoyed just seeing your work. Sparta could have used you!

Ah!  I am genuinely glad to find out THEY DID, IN FACT, find a GOOD HOME after all!

If the briar insert drifts up on the beach at Galveston, believe me, you will NOT want it back.  It would be akin to retrieving it from a septic system.  --RJ--

RE: The Olivewood bowl above:

Quote:
Mastercraft imported some olive wood pipes as a trial in about 78' used on Collectors Choice cards and never re-ordered. Collector's choice cards were Mastercraft display card...
held 24 pieces, including a few Tyrolean cherry and other really fancy stuff to catch the eye...Rest were just regular Mastercrafts.

Grabow tried several different woods in the late 80's including: Zebra wood and Bubinga which made very pretty, very durable pipes.

As was I.    Shocked

I knew it already, because Ted told me. He said Sparta experimented with several exotic woods. I don't expect to see them on eBay however.

Mac...I sent that to you in a PM about a month ago. You're letting work interfere with pleasure again.

You are right -- I need to stop letting work interfere with my passion!

Truthfully, I just didn't remember the specific names and as I had just specifically been working on the Briar 101 and 102, I probably did not pay enough attention to the "whole picture".  I am sure I have it and will have to go back and reread this material.  Thanks TED.  --RJ--

I think Ed has already nailed it, so I'll add 0356 in the mroning.

The last week, I only have an Internet connection for about 15 minutes right before I go to work in the morning.  When I get home in the evening, I have no connection and it remains that way until I go to bed at night.  That's why I have been absent from the Forum and answering emails lately . . .  --RJ--
ted

OS... I owe you a tool. Send me a PM with address, and it'll be on the way. You'll like it.....If you can find it in your "cave".

You missed by 1 day, 1 month, and 1 year. Lot younger than you thought....ted

1-1-1? Wonder if that means anything?? Actually Ted,I kinda got the impression from different things you had said here and there in the forum that you were pretty close to my age --7-11-50, but probably had a year or three on me.
ted

OS....As soon as my wife gets back from China-Mart with an envelope, It'll be on the way. Today probably. If you like "tools" you'll like this'en. In the mid 70's it sold for $15.95. Based on gas prices, it'll be $115.95 today....My pleasure....Do let me know what you think....TED

Which means big assed pecker!! Wood that is.
ckr

I have a problem pipe, fully explained at another site.

http://www.my-pipes.com/blog/ckr/how-do-you-dispose-pipe

So upon the advise of a good friend I went down to the dock to toss it.  There was this strange thing floating by, probably brought into the bay from the approach of Hannah, anyway it looked to be a briar tobacco bowl, kind of like one you would insert into a calabash.  Strange, now why would someone toss only part of a pipe into the Atlantic?  Hmmm. wonder where the rest of it is?
ted

ckr...I'll be down to pick it up in the morning. Musta' been from my Barrontini. It'll be tough to get the rest back from Sir Duke though. Thanks for the thought..ted
Sir Duke

thats funny.

Don't forget plan "b" your Kitchen Aid Rustication tool will work too...
ted

RJ and I did some "consolidated" buying on ebay. We bought 16 pipes. He got several old Linkman Grabows, and I got several that went directly into my rotation.

Three of them are doing nothing but laying around. They are.. Demuth Guardsman small apple...a Demuth Hesson Guard medium pot...and a Frank Medico mushroom. I started  working on the Frank, but found a 3/4 inch patched crack at the top, so I quit.

Anyone want them, they are yours for the asking.
...ted...
ozark southpaw

Well,if no one else wants them Ted you can send them to me. 3/4" ?
ted

Ed, Since you seem to be the only taker I'll box 'em up next week.
All 3 seem to have non-vulcanite bits. The pot will be really nice(I think) after refinishing. Demuth started making pipes in 1880, so these may be real "jewels"......I think not...

I re-measured the crack in the mushroom (neat shape) and it wasn't quite 3/4......11/16".....Enjoy 'em.....ted

Of course, I wasn't interested in the pipes, but it continues to amaze me how much stuff gets posted that I either never find or find way later.  I try and check everything out and even use "view posts since last visit" and still things escape me!  Oh well, it keeps things interesting!  --RJ--
ozark southpaw

Ted,got the pipes yesterday. The WDC's are kinda interesting. The Hesson Guard has a weird stinger! I really like that little Medico, even if it is cracked. Doesn't seem to go all the way through. Thank you!
