FreehandGot my first Freehand off ebay today. I've never even touched one of these before. Always passed them up back in the day when CVS and Peoples Drug before them had 15 to 20 pipes to choose from hanging out in the open. This pipe is in very good condition, just a little bit of char on the rim of the bowl. As I sit here holding this, looking at this pipe, I wonder why Grabow wasted a piece of briar on this thing.
It's a filter, as I assume they all are. It's marked Dr.Grabow FREEHAND on one side and IMPORTED BRIAR 04 on the other.
I smoked a bowl of PA in it. I kind of want to say ...not impressed. But then I didn't much care for the Omega when I first got one twenty some odd years ago. And I wouldn't part with the ones I have now. Who knows...I didn't like the wire carved finish either, and now I'm ate up with them.

Good catch Barry, hope you enjoy it. I have never been particularly attracted to the freehands, although there are a couple of shapes that I do like and would probably bid on if I saw them. I'll bet it will smoke well for you.

Shape has a lot to do with it, as far as personal tastes. I have had an 07 and an 04 for quite some time. Never cared for either very much, but far prefered the 04 over the 07. Recently I purchased a #12 (wasn't number stamped) from my local shop and I really like it. Whole different shape, balance and feel! --RJ--

I'm not a big fan of the freehands - I guess it has to do with how they look. The only one that I do have is a grabow 012, that I bought many years ago when I first started with the pipe. It smokes wonderfully, and is so comfortable in my mouth. It's one of my favorite pipes.
