Greetings

Hello All

I found this forum today and have just begun to dig around and learn more about a couple estate deals and gifts I have recently acquired.

Namely a couple of commodores shape numbers 85 and 65 both were in great shape and smoke just as well. I yanked and put away the stingers but both had them.

About me well I live near St. Louis, Missouri. Hobbies are fly fishing, tying and and Shooting. I Work for myself building and maintaining Reef tanks and Koi ponds.(Might be needing another/extra job soon.)

Of course I am into pipe smoking and have mostly stuck with the American brands. Woodies,Yellow Bole, a few Wally Franks. Big on the burly but do go English and Oriental also. Latakia has been also gaining an interest as of late.

Nice place. Probably wont have much to add about the Dr.'s pipes but really looking forward to learning about and enjoying a few more of them.

Welcome to the DGCF, Jon Joy. Sometimes the posteers here discuss DG pipes. Sometimes they just discuss pipe smoking. Sometimes they just discuss tobacco in general. And sometimes they just discuss.

You will probably fit into one of those conversations. Look forward to reading more from you.

Welcome JJ! It's good to know that I am not the only Grabow smoker in the state of Missouri!!

JJ....Welcome. It's good to know that there is a SANE pipe smoker in Missouri. We're starting to wonder?? about OS.

As Steve said, we mostly discuss Grabow pipes, but whenever nothing much is going on, we'll discuss anything.

Glad to have you. Pull up a chair, a bowlfull, and a cup, and help.....ted

Thanks for the Welcomes.

Also thanks for the warning but don't worry about me getting the short end on any possible swaps. I know the Show Me State handshake. Wink

Now for the pipes.

Two of my fav--nevermind. JJ, You really need to have some Larks and Mixture 79. I can fix you up!!

JJ. Great pipes. Two of my favorite shapes, and my favorite finish.

From 1969-70 forward the salesman for Grabow in the Mid-West was Roy Stapleton. He lived in Florissant, which is about 20 miles from you. Last I knew, he was still living...there.....ted

Welcome JJ to DGCF! Sound's like a fun job you have. My sister gave me a plastic pond when they moved outta their old house.(around 140gallons) I was very happy to see that the 2 Koi & 3 Goldfish survived through the winter. Ran the pump for a few days but it's frozen over again from the cold night's.(teen's to low 20's) Any sugestions to knock down the slight alge on the sides and controling it?
Thanks,
Emery

Ya Ted these are right in my wheel house also. I would really like to get a bent bulldog or rodhi. in the same line to match them. Both great smokers.

I have been digging threw older threads and its great that this forum has you here with so much knowledge of the lines and inner working of the company. Thanks its very much appreciated and a great perspective that you so willingly seem to share.

TheDuke,

I'll just touch on this subject send me a PM if you have any questions. I would be glad to help by offering advise.

Algae comes from several sources working together in a closed pond or aquarium environment.

1. Sunlight or lighting- shade helps tall cattails, elephant's ears, lillys or grasses planted in or near can all possibly shading part of the pond for the day.

2. to many nutrients - Food, fish waste, decaying plant matter. Vacuum the bottom during water changes. Clean up leaves or any plant dye off. Don't over feed.

If you can control these things you will be a long way into defeating your and everyone's favorite problem with ponds. There are a few tricks I have picked up that may help make the work easier give me a Pm with your ponds stats. I may be able to offer some tips. Best tool to physically remove it.  Lee`s Algae Scrubber Pad Jumbo

Anyone comes across anymore of this line available please let me know. I am really enjoying these. And would like to add a few more in the rotation.
TheDuke

I appreciate the info JJ. I have pretty good shade and kept the alge down last summer. It's only a slight issue now that the ice pack has melted and the fish are comming outta hibernation.I'll get one of those scrubber's and get to work! Ah Summertime is almost here!
