Hey Ted, a complicated business questionWell, *I* think it's complicated. it might not be for you. Anyway, here goes...
How did the coupons-for-pipes "deal" work? How did you pay the tobacco companies, and how did they pay you? Discounted baccy for the use of the pipes? SOmething else entirely?

AH...Thanks for the question.
During the "heyday" of our coupon redemption business Grabow redeemed coupons for Westbrook, Berwyck, Belvedere, Sculptura, and Emperor which were coupons included by RJR in Carter Hall and George Washington tobacco.
During this time Starfire (Most comparable to Westbrook) sold at retail for $7.95. Grand Duke was $2.95. Grabow sold to their customers for a discount (retail less 50% and less 10%). Starfire was sold by the factory for $3.60 and Grand for $1.35.
Imagine how great it was to sell a Westbrook directly to the customer for $5.00 paid in cash (or check) directly to Grabow. We averaged about 3X normal selling price for coupon redemptions. RJR never paid us, and we never paid RJR.
The names became ours, and RJR even bought a few from us for a promotion.
Grabow later used many of the names for catalogue offers of it's own...ted

I guess we can't find a "national" tobacco company. Brown and Williamson with SWR, and Middleton with the rest....Who else would/could do it.
Yes, AH, it would still work....easily. Guess I'm a dummy, but I'd be asking, and offering to pay for the coupons, and a small fee to the tobacco company for their insertions.......
I'd put an offer in Dills cleaners....Grabow filters.................Kools, Camels,......Ford trucks.......condoms......anyway, you get my "drift"...ted

Wouldn't recommend Grabow being alined with #79. Be a bit like Hershy chocolates and Fresh Step Kitty Litter getting together. May not taste like s**t yet. Just wait a few minutes.......ted

Perhaps if the Mixture 79 offer included 2 pipes and a condom?
