How Many Bowls?I’m wondering what a normal, average amount of bowls smoked per-day might be by folks here on the Forum.
Presently, I smoke two bowls. I smoke one bowl to-and-from work (half on the way and the other half on the way home). Then I smoke one after dinner – sometimes on the back patio or on a walk with my wife.
I checked previous postings (quickly) and didn’t notice one on this topic. If I missed it let me know.

>8 I guess. It is 1pm today, and I can recall 4 bowls so far. But I often smoke short bowls, probably only 1/2 by the time it is lit and tamped. I prefer short frequent bowls over long occasional bowls. Hyperactive I guess with a short attention span.
I can enjoy a full bowl while I'm reading, driving or mowing. Other times it is a quick bowl during commercial breaks.

I normally rise early and start the day in my home office with a cup of coffee and a bowl of SWR Aromatic. Two and a half hours later, I'm on the road to my office with a fresh pipe and bowl of whatever I have 'stocked' in the car. I usually don't start to smoke this one until I get within a few miles of my destination. So it is waiting for me either at lunch time or at the end of the day. Depending on how bad traffic is, I may or may not finish this one. I try not to leave smoked pipes in the car overnight, so I'll either finish this one after dinner or start a fresh one with something special.
My evening activity dictates whether I smoke or not. If I'm holed up in my home office, then I'm smoking two to three bowls of different tobacco in different pipes. Not all at the same time, but there have been times when I've gotten confused and lost track of what I smoked last. That's when I know it's time to turn off the lights and hit the sheets.
I tend to smoke more on weekends. Mostlly because I am trying new blends and testing new pipe acquisitions. I do smoke consideralably less than I did in the past. I believe it used to be a habit, whereas now, it is a pleasure. I found that I smoked immediately after a meal, and I used to eat a lot and often. I've lost 90 pounds in the last year and a half. So...food is no longer a crutch for me and neither is smoking.
All in all, I probably burn through 6 to 8 ounces a month. That's down from a pound to a pound and a half a month. Smoking less, and enjoying it more!

Normally about four full bowls in a normal day -- hardly have normal days. One cigar on Sunday. Primarily bowls are smoked after breakfast, lunch and dinner/supper and maybe an extra one thrown in for good measure sometime in the day or before bed. At work, sometimes less or a couple more, and like DRB, maybe a couple more than usual if I am working on an outdoor project.
When I did have a regular daylight job, I ALWAYS would smoke one (or most of it) driving to work. Depending on how much I smoked at work that day, I may or may not smoke a bowl on the way home. One of the reasons I smoke a full bowl at home is sort of to MAKE me take a nice little (up to an hour normally) break for reading a book or looking at magazines, etc. Sort of "makes" me set aside a bit of time for relaxing every day, regardless of what I am doing or working on. Sometimes it's reflective time or a time for thinking and planning.

Actually, I thought we DID discuss this before in the Forum -- no doubt it has come up a time or two. But like a lot of our discussions that seems to stray beyond the "borders" of a particular subject, no telling where the information is located! As a matter of fact, I thought a "poll" on "how many bowls" had been done in relation to one discussion. --RJ--

I never counted but usually my pipe doesn't get a chance to cool off. I use two pipes per day. Change up after supper. I probably go through about an ounce every day.

I'm like Tom, 10-12 bowls per day most days. Sometimes more, sometimes less. But then, I work at home most of the time, and the whole house is a designated (by me) smoking area.

Well, I thought maybe two bowls might be too much. Guess not. I have some catching up to do! I better go have a smoke

I'm a light weight compared to most of you. I usually get in one bowl on the way to work, one on the way home and one at night. I rarely get to take more than 10 minutes for lunch let alone a some break so I usually take the long way home. Like Mac said, a bowl at night forces me to slow down and relax. Really helps me rest. I've also noticed that my smoking schedule changes with the seasons. Less when it's hot and more the colder it gets.

You are so right there, Fly...The fall is the best time for pipe smoking.

RA, I'd say two bowls is just fine if that's what you like. I probably smoke three to four bowls a day most days. Some at the office or when traveling and one on the way home about half the time. Sometimes I will smoke one after supper but not always, just depends on what's going on. On the weekends, I actually probably smoke less, but I use those days as my "strong blend" days. I'll smoke something like Irish Flake or Brown No. 4 and there's no way I'm going to smoke those either during the work day or just before bed time. So there you have it, kind of a haphazard schedule, really.

Or early spring, just as the trees start to bud and the winter almost gone, but not quite.

Rev, remember many of us are retired, semi-retired, or we have figured out a way to work from home. For many years of my middle age, I smoked only 1 or 2 bowls/day.

I'm averaging 3-4. My tongue is fine with 2, mostly o.k. with 3 but after that, it lets me know that I'm overdoing it. As a heavy cigarette smoker, I tend to draw heavy and I know if I can moderate that I'll be able to smoke the pipe more. All my working years I smoked cigarettes all day and had a pipe at night when winding down. Since retiring I've tried to smoke the pipe more and quit the cigs but that is so darn hard to do that I haven't been able to completely transition. It's almost like the cigarettes are a habit and addiction whereas the pipe is strictly pleasure and optional from the addiction angle.

Yes, I mentioned to my wife that I thought maybe the reason some smoke more than others is because of the work place opportunity or retired.
As far as spring and/or fall being an enjoyable time to smoke more ... doesn't help much here in Southern AZ. There's hot and not so hot with maybe a little warm thrown in from time to time. Of course, I could smoke in the dead of the night in Winter and maybe feel cooooooooler Just keeps me looking forward to when we move back NE.
I do remember when I was young and sneaking my parents' cigs. I loved smoking outside in the dead of Winter. Just something about that crisp, cold air that seemed to enhance the experience. Ah ... the good ole days.

The cigarettes are simply a nicotine fix, while the pipe is pure pleasure. I'm also trying to make a complete switch to the pipe. Good luck to both of us.

I started smoking pipes back in March because I decided cigarettes were getting too expensive. The switch wasn't a problem for me, but then I'm addicted to the act of smoking, not the nicotine.
I have bought a few packs of cigarettes since then, but not for the nicotine. Bogey movies make me crave cigarettes. Why couldn't he have been a pipe smoker?
