I ran out of my regular Tobacco

So I decide to try some the tobacco that walgreens carries. Shoulda went else where!! Bought a 12 oz. bag of the "Rich Vanilla". Smells great in the bag,so so room odor, tastes Evil or Very Mad  like Captain Black(White) which I dont like either! It was so wet I could have wrung water from it! Put it in a cake dish (think that what it is) and set it on the counter to dry. Even nuked it twice  for about 45 seconds. It's still wet. Think I'll have this for a very long time!

Hope it works out, OS, but the odds don't look good for you. At least you are trying to dry the blend. Some posters on tobacco reviews complain about the blend being too moist as if they don't know they can dry it.

Don't buy Vanilla if you don't like CB-White. Don't buy Cherry if you like tasting food and drink.

It has dried out some what this morning but still feels damp. I read on another forum a while back that if a tobacco will not dry out it likely has propylene glycol as an addditive-thats anti freeze aint it?

OS, Ihave some of that stuff. Put it away for pssible post Nuclear Catastrophe. The PG's are Humiddicants. they way over do it especially since packaging is far better than what it used to be. If it were't for the ICK taste it'd be a good thing but unfortuenatley it has a taste, and tastes bad.

You almost Can't dry the stuff out. But when ya do, you'll still taste it but not as bad.

Anyway, that aint how ya make a cake.

Rainy here. Left my pipe o(Omega) n the porch rail to air out. It got real wet after an inch of rain. (paper) towled it off. Dumped the soggy tobacco, wiped the inside of the bowl, changed the filter and loaded it up with the PA and had a terriffic smoke.

My lucky day I guess,

After a few bowls of that stuff I could not take any more. Went down to the BP station  to see if they still some SWR. All they had was PA and Velvet, got the velvet. Yesterday I put that walgreens stuff in a glass baking pan and stuck it in the oven at 180 for an hour. It still feels wet and sticky!! Today I got real inventive!! Put a handful in a pot of water and simmered it for about 15 minutes!! Its on the kitchen counter drying. Coulda make tea from water!! I put the reat in the bag and put it out of sight. Had the wife stop today and buy a can of SWR. Gotta get on line and order some more Stokkebye!!

If ya grow tomatoes that tobacco tea in a spray bottle will keep the bugs of your plants. Its a natural insectiscide. As it is poisonous. Because of the PG's your plants will no longer be certifiably organic though!  Rolling Eyes

Well,at least there is one use for this stuff!!

The tobacco that I boiled finally dried out. Was a really funny color!! Stuffed some in a cob and before I got it lit good my tongue felt like it was covered in grease!! Promptly threw that stuuf in the trash. Tomorrow I think I will take the rest of it and throw it on this pile of brush I have to burn!! Sir Duke,if a nuclear catastrophe ever happens quess I'll have to quit smoking!!

Is this what happens when non-smokers make our pipe tobacco?

Reminds me of an anorexic chef. That girl couldn't boil water and make it taste right.

I had a similar experience with something called "China Black" Vanilla Burley that Sam's sold for awhile.  I can't throw anything out and I have just a couple of bowls worth left now.  I fill my bowl a little more than half with it, then put CH or PA on the top for the rest of the bowl.  Not so much for blending, as just getting the stuff started, and by the time I get to the China Black, it's nice and warm and has dried out a bit.  --RJ--

I have one of those dehydrator things for making jerky. But I think the tobacco would fall through the draft holes. And it would make my jerky taste like vanilla.

Anti freeze is ethel glycol, a close cousin I'm told, Propylene glycol is a food grade additive that mixs with water and slows evaporation. It's the same stuff they put on those little hockey puck thingies in humidors to keep the moisture level.

I was introduced to pipes, and mentored by a bit of a tobacco snob, and this is one of the reasons I was so slow coming around to some of the good things like Carter Hall. Now I'll agree that Carter Hall is some really good stuff, But one of the big things you always hear is "well they sell a ton of the stuff".

They probably sell a ton of rich vanilla too....but none for me thanks.
And I have no doubt that there are folks out there that would smoke nothing else.

All I have to say to them is "Ahh thanks...really, but I have plenty of tobacco", and "sorry, but I have all the estate pipes I need thank you."

I love Rum and Maple! I also keep in rotation Prince Albert and Half & Half.
I like the Codger Burleys.

I don't have a regular tobacco that I smoke all day as yet. For one I cant smoke at work and secondly I have yet to taste a tobacco with that WOW factor. I like the Middleton Walnut, it has a pleasant after taste and think that would be my all day smoke if I had to choose right now but I do like variety.

With regards to Carter Hall, they sell a ton of it beause its so popular. A nice simple uncomplex tobacco which is plesant to smoke while working in the garden etc, for me anyway Smile

I Agree!

I smoked Walnut a few years back and I love it, but my wife hates it!
She hates all aromatics and all Englishes. I guess thats why I went back to Codger Burleys. To me Walnut was like smoking a semi-sweet english.
A very good smoke indeed!
