OS, we haven't gotten anything like that - glad the tree missed you! We had one a few years back where we were without power for 6 days and I still haven't bought a generator. Gotta do that.
Hope everything is okay or will be soon.

Ted,thanks for the offer of the firewood but I figure I have at least ten cords on the ground! Been out the last couple of days with the chainsaw-haven't made a dent in it yet. Good thing is most of it won't have to be split. Probably rent a splitter in the spring for the big stuff.I ain't swinging that maul any more!!

OS...I still use the "GO-DEVIL". Once raced a splitter...2 people on 2 people....We won, 'course the water and beer bill cost us MUCH more.
If you need me and the saw, just holler'. I need an excuse to meet you anyway....ted

Cuttin" woodI'd like to meet you also Ted! And a bunch of others on this forum! Maybe we need to have a DGCF convention in Sparta!! Appreciate the offer of you and the saw but I ain't gonna get into this to hot and heavy until some warmer weather comes along!! Mainly just clearing paths around the house and some along the drive and the road to our place. It's a private road so it's up to me and the other folks who live on it to get it cleaned up. We can at least get in and out now. I'm planning on having one big weenie roast come spring! Gonna have a bunch of brush to burn!

Is a "GO-Devil" a maul ? If so, you and John Henry would have made a hell of a team!!

OS...Yes, A "GO-DEVIL" is a Maul......Flat on the back side, EXTREMELY sharp on the other. I file mine every time I use it. Think I could shave with the edge of my 8 pound maul.
Give me a man who likes beer, and can set a log on a chopping block, pick up and stack split wood, and we'll race any pneumatic wood splitter made.
Of course, I once took the chain saw to the woods, bent over a "downed" tree to trim off limbs.......The saw kicked back and hit me in the forehead. 23 stitches, and fewer brains later, I was OK.....gonbjsitrn you uydmg schs,
Do have a really cute "V" in my forehead.......ted

After reading your response I think I need to get out my file Ted!! I keep my axe pretty sharp but didn't realize that a maul might work better if kept very sharp. I found the one I have under a pile of leaves where the previous owner of this place must have lost it. Got a plastic handle and no name. Don't think I would want to try racing any kind of splitter, after a half dozen or swings-no two in the same spot I'm ready to pitch the maul into the woods!! Chainsaw kickback-hell of a way to get body decoration! OUCH!!
