Interesting Take on Lane, LtdI just read a profile in Cigar Magazine, Summer 2009, of Joe Rowe, Executive Director of the International Premium Cigar & Pipe Retailers Association (IPCPR), formerly Retail Tobacco Dealers Association (RTDA). He previously worked for Lane, Ltd on the cigar side of the business. After British American Tobacco bought Lane in 1999, he says, "BAT's primary presence in the United States was Brown & Williamson. Once that deal went through, Brown & Williamson people were put in charge of Lane; that was the death knell of Lane as we knew it. That was a shame. They're cigarette people. They couldn't understand the direct-retail business."
Seems to pretty much agree with your opinions, Ted, and what they did with Sparta Industries.
