L.L. Bean pipe

I just saw mention of L.L. Bean pipes in IL's meer thread. Here is one I actually bought from IL about a year or so ago. It's turned out to be a darn fine smoker and this will sound crazy, but y'all are the only folks that'll understand, it is a great choice for hunting and camping trips. Just something about wearing my old hunting coat, smoking an L.L. Bean pipe with my shotgun over my arm after a long day rustling up rabbits. I thought y'all would enjoy pictures of it. Here it is:

Yep, I understand.

That pipe is a SmokeMaster. Many were made at the Sparta plant.

It smokes great and burley blends taste wonderful in it.

Better hope Mac doesn't see that Edgeworth,he'll be sneakin' in on you to snatch it and leave some Mixture 79 in it's place!! Nice pipe!

Okay, let me correct that. That pipe is an LLBean, but it is exactly like the SmokeMaster, and it probably was made by the same maker that produced the SmokeMaster. And since SmokeMaster was out of Greensboro, NC, where HL&T was officed also, it isn't a stretch to figure the Sparta plant made the SmokeMaster and the LLBean pipes.

That's a nie looking pipe! But why the Beef Jerky in the pic? Laughing

Now that you mention it, Duke, Edgeworth Slices do look like beef jerky.

We did a bit of discussion on LLB and Smokemaster back in September(ff). It's "L.L. Bean Pipes".

Maybe that discussion will be of interest.....ted

Thanks! I enjoyed reading that. I also followed the L.L. Bean thread on SF. I'd like to have a couple more of them. It is a good dry smoke.

You know, thats the funny thing about pipes.  You really don't have to buy the big name expensive ones to get a great smoke.  Mastercraft, Custom-bilt, Weber, LL Bean, Smokemaster, LHS, Ehrlich along with Medico and Dr. Grabow to my palate are every bit of a match for GBD, Comoy, Savinelli, and yes, even Dunhill.

Think about it.  The Dunhill reputation was built on the basis that they set a standard - always bored true, always cured properly, always a quality smoke.  It seems to me that is exactly the same factors that made Dr. Grabow such a great success.

Anything more is IMHO, vanity and that O.K. if thats what you are into.

I have a better idea. Next time you're in Tennessee stop by and smoke a flake or two of Edgeworth. And on a side note, there is a place in Denmark that still sells tins of Edgeworth Sliced. http://www.danishpipeshop.com/ It's about $23 a tin  and now the kicker... Shipping is about $40.......

Appreciate the invite!  Well, I have managed to snag one more can of Edgeworth and will probably treat this one as my truly last can.  At the prices, I am just going to have to wean myself off of it!!!  --RJ--
