Needs some red ones and I am sure there is someone on this forum who will help you fill that gap!

Very nice looking pipe sir. I have had a couple that the paint was too far gone to save, so I took it off. However I don't have any color pipes at the moment.
Oldbriar

Nice collection.

Nice collection, SF. Those are very eye catching. The more you show those white ones, the more they are growing on me.

I just got one in the mail today. Not a Grabow but a Polish brand of dubious quality. What had sold me was that the description was color Yellow and it looked quite vivid. I had read the Grabow color yellows were the shade of Grey Poupon Mustard. Well, this Polish special is more natural with a yellow tint than bold yellow. Bla! ( I know, colors on your screen may be different from the actual photo) Any comments on the Grabow yellow?

Reason for the yellow is Green Bay Packer color and I spend a considerable amount of time outside near the stadium on game day. So of course, I need a matching pipe.

For the curious, here is the picture.

Ed, I really like your Olympic card.  I've got an Olympic on a pot, I believe.  Never dawned on me that they would put them on a bunch of different styles.

There were a number of things going on at the time, but I am assuming that the 1789 commemorative Grabow pipe was because of the inauguration of our first US president.  Tom, do you recall the time of this pipe?

Spadie, That makes 2 of us..

We did several Color pipes with college decals and sold them to bookstores, but don't remember this one.  td

A good guess would probably be 1989, the 200th anniversary of the event.

Yes Dave, and I was EVP and Chief Operating Officer from 1982 till 1989 and still don't remember them...

There would have, most certainly, been legal issues (real or imagined) to be resolved. We had to get waivers to do the Clemson, NC State, etc. decals.

That decal wouldn't have happened without my approval.. and if I can remember Clemson, NC State, Syracuse, UNC, Georgia Tech, etc..., surely I would remember George Washington..

Might have happened after 1991..  td
JoeMan

Spade...you can see it squarely from the side, it's the bottom pipe in my stack of colors in the image just above it.  I have mentioned it somewhere here on the forum, but don't think I posted a picture.

I'm pretty sure it's a #36.  If it appears 'wider' at the bottom (almost like a tulip shap), it's just the camera angle...it's just like the Color Duke 36 above it. The 1789 has ajusto with scoop cleaner, vulcanite, t/m stem as you can see, but NO stampings. If I recall, this came from a mixed estate lot I snagged from a seller in NC.

Tom, could it have been a prototype which grew legs and walked out the back door?  It's still unsmoked, and some of the others in the lot were also unsmoked.  One other in that same group was another DG which I've never seen...a wire carved pot...meer-lined...stamped Viscount, but NOT stamped Meerschaum-Lined.    Rolling Eyes  Question  Shocked

Great find Joe

What do the words around the edge of the blue oval say.  Looks like one word is "Marylandia" ??
JoeMan

I will get a better image up later this evening, Gerald.  I didn't realize this was the first 1789 pipe to make an appearance here.
ted

Joe.. First, it could have been done in 1980 or 1981.. Right after the Olympic pipes were done.
Certainly a possibility since I would have not known about it. Makes sense.. because

Between 1982 and 1990 ..just buying that decal wouldn't have happened without my approval..
That did not happen...

I'm with Dave though.. Why do a 1789 commentrative in 1980?
Wish I could help.. td

Looking around a bit, that symbol seemd so weird to me, like a secret society or something. Eagle with a barrel (actually a globe) and a cross?  I think it is Georgetown University's, Founded in 1789. I googled images "1789 Eagle" and found it.

ted

If the image is of Georgetown then the pipe and decal are from 1981.
Makes perfect sense now.
A salesman went to Georgetown and I'll bet some were made while I was busy with Mastercraft.. td
JoeMan

Yep.

Spadefan

Is Joe's the only University decal Grabow owned by forum members?

They were made for Clemson, NC State, Syracuse, UNC, Georgia Tech, and others.

If you have one post a pic for us to see and appreciate.
colorduke
