Lets see your EMPERORs

Lets see your Dr.Grabow Emperors.
From my notes of forum posts:
Emperor was the "top of the line" R.J. Reynolds coupon pipe for RJR in Carter Hall and other tobacco.. Made from #1 brair flawless A+ stummels and then wet selected for full grain and no flaws.  "Natural" finish with carnauba wax and a leather buffing wheel, and then a soft felt wheel and NO lacquer.  Emperor made 1955 to 1985.  #1 Best quality pipe made at Sparta.

I'll go first:
Pair of Emperor 47

vwdeano

I posted mine not long ago.  Love both of those.  Very nice!
Dave G

Those are some real beauts. I can't wait to see what you fellas have stashed away for this thread.

My first Emperor was finagled from Ed's collection.

The only Emperor I have ever had is this nice 81 that Ed James gave me when I visited him and The Skyliner in his home in Missouri. I smoked it a while and it is a wonderful smoker and then sent it back to Ed to put back in his Emperor collection - he has most of the Emperor models that were made and they are simply beautiful pipes ... I love that Emperor 81 every time I see it.  Glad it's here in the family.

I believe Tom stated somewhere that there were occasions that an Emperor may have a fill...but if so, it will be pinhead size or smaller...just tiny.  I think one of mine has 2 very tiny fills.

Nice ones, Dave and Spade! I've got just a few...will get pics tonight.
Oldredbeard

I think I have 2, but can only find a picture of this one. I also got it from Ed a couple of years ago. She smokes as good as she looks.

I want to say the other one is straight, I'll have to see if I can get a pic of it.

At one time I had a dozen or more but it seems you guys have most of them now !! Shocked
Besides Dave's pipe  I do have these three and I think a couple more in the shop.

83,47 and 48. The 83 on the right is an Eldorado.

I picked up an ole 83 Eldorado that was in a natural finish not long ago.  Looks like it came close to being an Emperor.  Just a fill that was a little to large, and it got graded down.  With the natural finish (no stain, no lacquer) I wonder if the decision was made after the final buffing, but before stamping as to which one it would be?

Those are nice by the way Ed!

The Emperor and the early Eldorado are the same pipe --just different stamping. The Eldorado was the top of the line in the regular retail production. The Emperor was top of the line in the coupon pipe line up. Fills can be found in both lines--usually quite small and usually only one or two.
My emperor 83 and the 48 have none, the 47 has 4. That Eldorado has one.
pwoodard

I haven't been fortunate enough to add a Emperor to my collection.  I was lucky enough to pick up an 81 Eldorado that elliottws was kind enough to part with.  It is the only Eldorado I have.  As always many of you have great looking collections.  Thanks for sharing.

mine

My auction find.  Terrible blurry pics and a few tiny fills that GLOWED on the pics probably led me to get it for a steal.

TigerJack

Great looking pipes guys. G'Day Gents.

Ah now I got it! Thanks Ed!

The TR, 21 and 83 haven't been refurbed yet.  I don't think any of these have a single fill.  The bottom of the 42 is covered in birdseye.

Really pretty
And those Continental shaped Emperors must be really rare, I hardly ever see them.

Great looking group of pipes Joe.
pipesbywhitney

Nice set, Joe.
WayneD

You fellas all have some real beautiful pipes. Im Emperor poor at this time. Might have to change that sometime in the future.
Spadefan

Emperor 45S
JoeMan

Nice one, Spade, and nice, clear stamping.

Tom has an Emperor #25...I hope he sees this and posts that one.
Spadefan

TR-36 or #361
Oldredbeard

Wow that has some nice grain, and it's a TR. Sweet pipe bro.

Thanks, its the nicest grain bowl Ive got as the flame grain goes a full 360 degrees around and no flaws.  Bought from Ed.  Thanks Ed.
ozark southpaw

You're quite welcome Gerald !

Emperor 82
Spadefan

Emperor 83
Oldredbeard

Those are both very nice, I'm a little partial to the 83's.
UncleBob

That 82 has got me in full covet--and on a Sunday morning, too!

Emperor 83 unsmoked

Yes those are pits filled with pink.  I guess the idea was that over time the finish would darken and the pink would darken also and blend in.

Nice one, got a Viscount 24 with the same pinhead pink fills. Used the ultra fine point brown sharpie to blend them. After seeing all of these I might need and Emperor now, thanks guys.

That's a gorgeous pipe. You shouldn't have to suffer the burden of smoking a pipe with those fills. Send it to me. I smoke in low levels of light and there's a pretty good chance that another living soul will ever see it.  Twisted Evil

I thought briefly about coloring the pink but decided against it.  After all, it left Sparta originally with the pink.  So keeping the pink seemed closer to original condition.
JoeMan

Nice pipes, Gerald.  I really like the un-banded 83.
