Lets see your Grabow Uniques

Here are my notes on the Grabow Unique line:

Made by Jimmy Jones and Gracen Lucas in 1959-- 1961/2.....
According to Gracen Lucas, only about 500 Uniques were made.
They were only sold to customers that walked into the factory ……    td

.....Gracen Lucas started with Grabow in 1959. The Unique was made about 3 years after he started. I started in 1966 and had the pleasure of selling the last dozen or so out of a locked cabinet in the old office. Price was $35.00 in 1966.   A few years ago I paid $500.00 for 4 of them. Gave one each to RJ McKay, DRB, Ed, and Steve.  Worth every cent............ ted

If anyone has more info about these, please share.

Some are number stamped Ive read somewhere.  If you show one that's number stamped please tell and or show the number.

Most Ive seen are smooth.  Some are wire carved and some are part carved.

All I have seen have a white spade.  Did they all?

Some of the old timers on the forum have several and one of them has 6 last he weighed in on Uniques.  Hope we get to see them.

Someone go first

I know a bunch of guys here have one....some have more....

Here's mine...

Compared to a Sparta-made Big Pipe...

We've seen that cool olde-looking script on some of the really old Dukes with blue spade...I believe that same script was used to stamp "Handmade" on my unique, so this might date that old stamp script to 1960 or earlier...

Ed...that pipe from Tom has a straight shank, but a bent stem.  You should send it to me.

Grain on that one is amazing.
Yohanan

My one and only Unique 112. It came sans spade but Tom was kind enough to rectify that situation. Very Happy

Those Uniques are certainly unique.
Love them.
There are alot more owned by forum members, old timers who no longer post much.
Hope we get to see some more.

Here's the one I just picked up.  Did a really quick cleaning, as time is at premium right now.

Tom, I tried to get the patches blended out better.

Thelonious Monkfish

So nice, great score/steal. The fills blend much better now, good work.

Beautiful work CE.
That is a huge piece of briar. Did the original owner smoke it? or just looked at?
pwoodard

Yes sir, it came complete with left over baccy. Laughing The chamber looks to be about a mile deep, so I'm thinkin on the few special occasions that I smoke it I might try that parfait thingy.  Hadn't done that yet, so I'm gonna layer up different burleys or Virginias and see how it goes. Should be fun with a six pack! Shocked
Kentuck

Very nice Carl! Its a beauty.
C.E. Purdy

Thanks all!  I only wanted one for my hoard, so any more that come along wont be getting bid on by me.  You fellas bring 'em on home!
