More 84 stuff

I thought I would post this picture of all my 84s and 84Ls.  I found it interesting to compare these pipes and note the differences, or lack thereof.  The first two are Eldorados, both 84Ls.  The bottom one is a Starfire and has no number.  The next one up is a Hillcrest and has no number (like all my Hillcrests).  The middle two are where it gets interesting.  These are both Viscounts.  The upper one is an 84L and the lower one is an 84.  Note that they appear to be exactly the same size!  Is it safe to surmize that the "L" designation may not have had a size standard attached to it and could have varied over the years?

Is it just me or does the top rusticated Eldorado 84L look longer than the rest?

Yeah it does! And the bottom pipe looks a little shorter than the others!!

Steve, please send me (from the top) the first and third pipes for further evaluation. I'll return them in an untimely manner I promise.

Wesley, come see me some time and I'll let you smoke your choice of pipe and tobacco.  Don't worry, I'll clean the bit first!

I should have done this the first time - here is how they line up:

Top Eldorado - 6.5"
Red Eldorado - 6.25"
Rough finish Viscount - 6"
Smooth Viscount - 6" (maybe 1/32 shorter)
Hillcrest - 6.25"
Starfire - 5.75"
