My No Name Dr Grabow Bent Bulldog

As some of you probably know, my son Seth and I attended the Dr. Grabow Factory Tour the other day.

We had a blast, and as I stated in my previous posts and pics on the tour, at the end we were able to pick up some pipes from the "Scratch and Dent" section before we left.

Having what could best be described as an addiction to Bent Bulldogs, I picked up three unfinished bulldogs, 2 smooth and one rusticated.

So, this evening while sitting up in the mancave enjoying a pipe with my other son Nick, I decided to start finishing these unfinished pipes.

One of the smooth ones has a pretty unremarkable grain so I decided to turn this one into my "Dress Pipe".  Meaning that I'm staining it black.

While I was letting the first application dry, after lighting it with a match, I decided to shine up the other one with nicer grain.

Silly me forgot to take any before pictures, but here's the afters...

As I sit here typing I've got my No Name Dr. Grabow stoked up with Carter Hall, breakin er in while I'm letting the second application of stain dry on the Dress pipe.

Thats a nice job. I saw the unfinished after you bought them.

Quite an improvement..  td

Looks like a dandy effort to me.  Great stuff.

thanks gents.

I'll try to have the other one finished here in the next day or so (the stem needs some elbow grease)

Beautiful work on that 83. Is it a filter or non-filter 83?
Wildcat

It's both!   Wink

It's either a "filterless" filtered.

Or

It's a Non-filter Filtered.

Confused

It had a filter, I took it out and will most likely not put one back in.
LadyMargaret

excellent work, as usual! enjoy Smile

Very Nice,. G'Day
Dan

Very nice work indeed.

Ok,

so here's the "Black Dress" Bent Bulldog.

I decided to go with a satin finish.

It turned out OK, but not necessarily great.

I'll fire up some Carter Hall in it this evening and report back.

Smile

I think you will be breaking in a 100% new, old briar?  Carter Hall should do well, I'd think.  I like em all but the #83 is one of my favorites.

I love that shape as well Tiki.

Yup, it's a new old briar.  Smile

Tonight's been a tobacco medley in many pipes, but I started out the evening with a bowl of CH in the Black Dress.

It smoked like a champ.  Only packed it about 3/4 full.  Only needed one re-light.

I think me and this lil ol bulldog are gonna get along just fine.

Those turned out nice, good work and congrats on the haul.

Nice work. That natural smooth finish bulldog is a beaut.

Ajustomatic or push stem? Seems like one that nice deserved a stamp. I'm glad it found a good home.

Thanks Dave,

The Black Dress is a regular stem.  The first one has the stem that accepts filters.
