Officer for Sister DGCF neededFor some of the younger crowd or cool old dudes with a Facebook account, I have just set up a sister group inspired by DRB's recent post about marketing the forum.
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=111139375152
I believe that not only will this help increase membership, but it is the only pipesmoking group on Facebook. This is a feat seeing as there are thousands of groups. Perhaps it is due to the younger demographic of social networking sites.
Would anyone care to be an officer and take the reigns of this new group? Let me know. Currently it serves only to point people here. What you want to make of it is basically up to you provided that it shares the same values and spirit we have here.
It is not intended to replace this group. Volunteer(s)?

That looks excellent, TM. I've never done FaceBook.
The officer for this group should be someone younger than myself. So I will sit on my hands.

Looks like a good idea. I joined the group but have not figured out just how this Facebook thing works!

Gillywalker it is then...Gillywalker will preside over the sister site on Facebook. Gents, no worries, I don't see the Facebook Group competing with DGCF. It will basically be a teaser to the what we have here: Grabow Nirvana!

I was telling Sir Duke that I run a couple of myspace pages for bands I play in. I think they work like digital business cards. When booking agents want to hear or see us we give them our myspace URL.
One of the libraries I work for just recently started a Facebook page. In no way does it replace the library's website. But, it allows individuals to comment about the library, and it's a great way to send updates to people who have befriended the library via facebook.
A lot of college kids are on facebook.

Geez, Gillywalker, you haven't been here an entire day yet, and we've already got you doing research in Chicago and running our FaceBook forum.
That's remarkable. Do things usually work like this around you?

Re: Officer for Sister DGCF needed
Amazing developments! A lot of stuff has been happening since I have been away tending to mundane life tasks.
To make it look more populated, I joined the Facebook group. Guess I am just a cool old dude (with three kids in college who have facebook accounts, the real reason I have an account).
All these neat developments, and yet, the last time I checked the REAL, OFFICIAL, 100% AUTHENTIC DR. GRABOW COMPANY WEBSITE, what did I find? As usual, this:
"This website is coming soon!
Please check back often."
How many contacts, potential customers and sales have been lost in all these months? Worse is probably having the URL and nothing there. It says to check back often, but it gets longer and longer between times when I check it out -- getting to be about once in a blue moon now . . . --RJ--

The DG website will go online when the BlackCaps dominate international match cricket.
They have a new coach and a West Indies tour starting next month. Things are going our way!

I laughed at my boss when I saw he had a facebook account. He's a few years younger than me. Im 45. I poked fun at him until... I had to create an account in order to join a martial arts group I wanted to join. Online Social Networking sites can be addicting and productive.
Glad to see you folks embracing it. Oh, and if your kids have accounts DONT add them as friends. Nothing good can come of it : )
Go BlackCaps ! Tickets go on sale Sunday!
RE what RJ said <<<<<How many contacts, potential customers and sales have been lost in all these months? Worse is probably having the URL and nothing there. Its mind blowing. Folks here confess to increasing there collection from 2 to twenty since joining. Internet is a must.. like Gilly said, if nothing else as an online business card.

Officer Walker reporting here. I've been posting on other pipe related facebook group's "walls" about our group. Hopefully it will bring in some customers.
Two things:
1) We don't have a wall on our group. Was this intentional?
2) Many of these groups have picture galleries and I dunno, maybe some of you guys are pretty scary looking so it may not be the best idea to put up personal pictures. But it might be cool to load up some pictures of Grabow pipes, old ads, and shape charts. I don't want to go around the internet stealing pictures that don't belong to me but we have great pictures in the gallery here. What do you think about putting some of those up? Again, those aren't my pictures either.

I know why you hadn't put a wall up and infact I almost put one up without asking. But due to the fact that it could change the feel of the page I thought it was something I shouldn't have just gone ahead added with out bringing it up to you guys.
I got the day off today, I'll go through the Gallery here and put some of Steverino and Drbridges pictures on the facebook gallery.

I don't think we have to worry about that. My concern was people just posting crap. But with daily monitoring of the facebook those can and will be removed.

..yes the crap thing. I was initially worried, then checked out the other pipe sites and noticed it was a non-issue.
