I had meant to win this pipe but, like many other auctions, it slipped my mind. This is the first Seville I have seen. Interestingly, the description said it was unsmoked and had come from someone who worked at the DG factory. The pipe was advertised as a "Doctor Grabow Seville", but what would the "SF" on the stem mean? Or is it "SF"?

Didn't find the SF, but did find a reference to a MasterCraft Seville. ted will know more about this than me, but MasterCraft was in Sparta after 1974, and had some things in common with DG.

This pipe is unlikely to be a Sparta pipe, because it isn't a Sparta shape. It may be a pipe imported by MasterCraft, and someone in the Sparta factory walked out with it.

Oh! I looked and didn't find a Seville included in Luther's Blue Ridge Collection. Or any pipe marked as SF or FS.

Drb,where is this Luther's Blue Ridge Collection? All I found was rocks,pretty rocks,but just rocks, no pipes. I like rocks.

Oz, Luther Marlow's Blue Ridge Mountains Pipe Smokers' Collection was a catalog published in the mid-1980s. They tried selling pipes, tobacco, and accessories from the DG & MC inventories direct to the customers.

Just found it! In ted's pink note on pg. 6.

Guys...I saw this on ebay, but couldn't be certain whether it was an import or a Grabow.

Mastercraft started importing Seville from GIGI PIPE in Varese in the late 70's or early 80's. The Seville became one of the most poular pipes M/C sold. They came in several versions, Regular, Filter, Convertable, and Lucite.

They were so popular that Grabow started making some for M/C. This gave M/C a steady sourse of supply, and allowed Grabow to make some fancier shapes for their regular lines. I think Grabow was making most all of them by the mid 80's.

SF is simple.....Seville Filter...

The ebay seller was from Wilkesboro or North Wilkesboro. That's about 40 miles from Sparta. The seller could have worked at the factory, but most certainly knew someone that did.

OS..When I get home, I'll send you a copy of Luther's catalogue. It's impressive.
