Shelby Foote - ShiloHas anyone tried this stuff? I'm about 8 hours out of Memphis and although I go there once every year or two, it's not worth the trip for me. I'd love to try it.
"His tobacco was a blend of cube cut burley, latakia and perique with a mild aromatic mixed in. He would buy the components and blend them himself. Eventually I blended them, named it Shiloh, and have been selling it ever since. It is a pleasant smoke." - Memphis Tobacco Bowl

I see no one has bitten on this thread yet.
NO, I haven't tried it or even heard of it. But Like you, I'd love to try it -- I love TRYING anything, but sometimes hate making the investment on something I may not like. Did I ever mention Mixture 79? --RJ--

Shelby Foote was also quoted in Pipes and Tobacco magazine several years ago as liking Edward G. Robinson Pipe Mixture, although he said it was too fine cut, so he mixed it with a rougher cut tobacco. He didn't mention what the rougher cut was, though. Last time I was in Knoxville, Smoky's had a can of Edward G. Robinson, but it didn't have a price on it, and the clerk didn't know it. Dave was at the UT-Kentucky game and couldn't be reached. After reading Bruce Harris's article on Mr. Robinson in the latest P&T, I intend to buy that can next time I'm in Knoxville, if someone else hasn't already got it, of course.
