Stummel drilling jig.

Here is a stummel drilling jig I made for drilling freehand formed pipes it centers and aligns the draft hole and mortise perfectly. It's a copy of the jig at the Chacom factory in France.

This is for already shaped pipes to be drilled?

You have some formed stummels you want drilled? Or briar blocks you want drilled?
Oldredbeard

Cool Another really cool setup. I might be a little envious. Wink

Was putting off some until I made a jig since I'm tired of holding a drill in one hand and wood in the other, get's sketchy. Wanted to try shaping first but I only use ground spade bits and hand drill. This seems much easier and smarter.

Can't wrap my heard around that Fletch. Got a pic with a stummel in the jig?

Ed,
I will take one when I get home tomorrow. The stummel goes on upside down chamber on the dowel shank in the V, the shopsmith acts as a horizontal drill press.

OK, I think I got it now--but would still like to see a pic.

I get it much better with the new pic. That's pretty neat. Thanks, Fletch!

Thanks Fletch ! I get it now !

I get it for straight pipes but can't visualize it drilling a bent without the dowels angle adjusted. Do you drill the tobacco chamber on a press and put it on the dowel then? And does it drill bends? How deep?
