Thankyou Steve!

I just got a package of tobacco samples from Steve today. The first of which was Cornell & Diehl Autumn Evening. Well, It was late when I checked the mail and we were headed out the door for an evening at my niece's house. So I grabbed a pipe and loaded it up to smoke on the way.

The first thing I have to say about this is...don't smoke it in the car with the window open. This is best enjoyed in an easy chair in a closed room, because you'll want to smell it as well as taste it. Upon first light I tasted fresh grass, only for a moment, then sweet sweet sweet tobacco. I like this. I am lousy at tobacco reviews. I don't know what I am smoking until I read the package. All I know is either I like it or I don't. This is a keeper for me.

I am now trying the Pipeworks & Wilke Vermont Maple Cavendish. Halfway through the bowl I am astounded by the richness and flavor coming from this weed.

Steve...if you will, please forward a list of the tobocco you like. Apparently, we have the same tastes. If I follow your list I will eliminate the error from the trial and error method of choosing tobacco.

I am looking forward to trying the rest of the samples you sent. Thank you so very much my friend!

Kudos to both of you Smile

Barry, I'm glad you are enjoying the samples.  As for my own tastes, I had pretty much settled on Autumn Evening as my "go to" aromatic, but then you had to go and introduce me to SWR!  I really smoke mostly Virginia blends, either straight or with some combination of perique and/or burley.  Some of my favorites are Peterson Irish Flake and University Flake, Solani Silver Flake, 633 and Aged Burley Flake, and Samuel Gawith Brown No. 4, 1792 and Bracken Flake.  The Bracken Flake and the 1792 could be thought of as aromatics as they are flavored with tonquin and other "essences".  They have a bit more kick than your typical "garden variety" aromatic.  I definitely don't smoke them every day!

Steve, I am finding the C&D Autumn Evening something that I don't think I will able to do without. I love my SWR Aromatic, and will always keep in the PA, CH, SWR, and WALNUT. These are all everyday go to blends for me. But the Autumn Evening and that Vermont Maple Cavendish are a special treat that I feel I will have to keep on hand.

The others you sent were very good blends, smooth, no bite, good flavor, but they don't seem to offer anything more than what I was getting from my SWR Arom. I spent some time on the C&D website, looks like I'll be getting a sampler along with a ton of the Autumn Evening. No one up here carries the C&D brand.

I'm happy you are enjoying the SWR Aromatic. My father-in-law smoked it, my brother-in-law smoked it, and got me started on it. I was a CH man before that. If I had to pick just one tobacco to have and smoke, it would have to be the SWR Aromatic.

Thanks for the samples and the list! I'll look out for these at my local tobacco shop.
