Last night I decided to finish off the night with some C&D Star of the east in a Linkman Lovat. Enjoyed this baccy the first few timesI smoked it,but this time was diffrent! May have to agree with Steve on this one about it "not working for him".
Dumped out last 15% and loaded up the PA! Much Better!
Started this morning with some Carter Hall in the same pipe. _________________ I burn the PA fella in the red can! |

I want to put what I smoke in what, but compared to you guys I'm pretty boring. Some tobacco in the same Omegas.
I'll guess I'll have to work on changing that. _________________ Rev. Avery |

| Never worry Rev. I'm pretty boring also. I smoke 1/2 SWR and 1/2 Dream Castle Black Cavendish about 90% of the time. These tobacco samplers would get bored.....Smoke what works for you...ted |

Currently, I'm limiting myself to about 3 blends.
1) Lane's RLP-6 has been my standard all-the-time blend for a decade. Usually I purchase it as "Texas Ranger" from my San Antonio tobacconist. When caught short, I substitute it with CB White.
2) Carter Hall became a favorite after TM raved about it repeatedly. I prefer CH as a morning pipe, and for cobs.
3) A blend of my own concoction, which is nearly equal parts burley, virginia, and golden cavendish. It would be my favorite all-the-time blend, except I accommodate to its delicious flavor, and have to abstain for a day or two before I can enjoy the flavor. It reminds me of cypress lumber. Perhaps some of you would call it as an old dairy barn.
That's about it. |

It's encouraging to see others blending to their own likings. At first, I wasn't sure if it's "OK" to do that -- but it's worked so far.
I'm going to have to try Carter Hall. I've tried two other store bought brands and didn't really care too much for them. A little scared to try another one.
Is there any way to tell what my tobacconist might call "Texas Ranger." I found one I bought in NH that's the same thing here in AZ by a different name. But, that I could tell by the smell. How could I tell if one is "Texas Ranger" in my store? If possilbe ... _________________ Rev. Avery |

Ask them if they stock Lane bulk tobacco, ask for RPL-6. It is sold as 'Leesburg' here in Leesburg, VA. Most if not all B&Ms hang their own name on bulk blends from Peter Stokkebye, Lane, Mac Baren, Altadis and Century. _________________ BWThomas |

CH in an Alpha Classic.
Rev,you gotta try CH. IMHO it is the best "codger" Burly out there!! I find the tubs need a little drying time,Pouches are about right to me. _________________ The only thing shorter than my memory is a certain part of my anatomy! |

Rev, likely you will not find "Texas Ranger" outside of the San Pedro Humidor in San Antonio. That is simply their moniker for RLP-6.
Barry is right, many tobacconists purchase bulk pipe tobacco and give it their own moniker. Lane's RLP-6 is readily available, but you will have to ask which of their blends is it. Or you can purchase it on line from sites such as: http://www.pipetobacco.com/page/pipet/PROD/lane/LBRLP6
It is definitely a popular aromatic, but not popular with everyone.
Don't be afraid to experiment with tobacco. Some of it is too moist, and benefits from open air drying; some of it is too dry, and benefits from a little moisture. Pipe smokers will figure out what they prefer after some experience.

They take telephone orders, but no online orders. If you call them, you definitely should ask for Dina Gabriel. She provides terrific customer service. That's what keeps me coming back.
