An enjoyable bowl of VELVET, one of my favorite regulars, in a smooth, darker complected, VISCOUNT #46 Continental.
Now, to get off on a tangent, like I usually do when I smoke and muse about things. The relative size of a particular shape! In most cases, it is unnoticed and not really a factor in identification of a shape, except in cases of the Apples, some Pears and maybe the Dublins, where without actual examples at hand to look at, it is hard to pick a small, medium, large or extra large from another as they all look about the same on the charts.
Here is one that struck me, though. There is really only one Continental #46 shape, yet back when I acquired these, I was puzzled. I had acquired a nice STARFIRE Continental that wasn't number stamped and was happy to classify it as an "X00" . . . until I learned that designation was really only for the RJR pipes. I then figured it was a #46 and everything was fine.
Then came along another acquistion and variation. A nice almost miniture looking pipe of the same shape, but number stamped very clearly #46! It was such a difference in size that I was left scratching my head.
So is it any wonder I have trouble telling the Apples apart? --RJ--

Actually, the size difference seems even more than what is revealed by the photos, especially when you hold them and smoke them.
