Follow up on those Lane/Sparta made SWR pipes: I discovered yesterday that although they are push tenon stems, the briar shank is drilled for tampon filters. If I trim a filter short, it will fit in the shank with room for the stem tenon. So I have a filtered pipe with push tenon joint.
They are both good smokers, btw.

This store site also lists Captain Black pipes among their SWR pipes under the Lane category. These pipes would have come along after ted was gone, but I wonder if the Captain Black pipes listed on eBay are also Sparta products from the Lane era? |

This is the Captain Black Yeoman made by Lane being sold from the previously identified merchant. Is it like yours?

My Captain Black is a smooth Canadian, but appears to have the same style of anchor. Could some or all of them have been sourced out to someone other that Sparta maybe? Edit-- I lied Dr.b, my CB pipe has a sandblast type finish!! _________________ The only thing shorter than my memory is a certain part of my anatomy! |

Promised not to, but here goes, in my STUPID way. Google "denicotea pipes"....Click on the 9mm link. In the search bar type "Dr. Grabow". Maybe several of you have found this. I hadn't.
These are the customers that aren't crazy about a Grabow web-site......I've done my "DUTY", and given YOU a chance.
Sorry brother.....you are out........ted |

Denicotea site says: | Quote: | | Please note: These pipes come in assorted shapes, sizes and stems. |
See, as a pipe smoker that simply isn't acceptable. I won't spend $25 on a crap shoot pipe. DG has to get beyond the old display board paradigm that says, "We will make a dozen Larks in various shapes, and when those 12 are sold, we will make 12 more. You don't like the small straight pear that's left on the display board? Sorry, until someone takes it we won't make any more." |
