Why would a magazine focused on internal security and communist activities publish an article on Louis Linkman?

Well, as part of the article's title that shows says, "FREE ENTERPRISE" -- that goes hand in hand with Americanism and stuff.  --RJ--

One of the odd things about that article was that it was entitled, "GROWING UP WITH FREE ENTERPRISE, " by Mrs. E.B. Dykes-Beachy.  The title had nothing about Linkman or pipes, so I didn't realize that I had found it for about a month before I was finally able to figure out the full title.  Oddly enough, it APPEARS like it will be a much better article about Linkman and his pipe business that the one that was written by a pipe man for the 1946 article in PIPE LOVERS MAGAZINE!  --RJ--

Dr. Grabow incorporated in Chicago in October, 1944. We need more information on the signatories. The recorded signers were:

Richard J. Dean
9449 Lawndale
Evanston, IL

Angelo Pinasco
1460 Pensacola
Chicago, IL

Harry A. Shapiro
6967 Sheridan Road
Chicago, IL

This corporation dissolved in 1953. In addition to the original 3 signatories, the dissolution document includes 2 more names.

Louis B. Linkman
342 Custer Ave.
Evanston, IL

Louis Regensburg
3740 Lake Shore Drive
Chicago, IL

We need more information on the signatories.

I was just revisiting this topic last night.  I don't know who Louis Regensburg was, but I did find out that he and his wife took a boat trip in 1950.  He and his wife were on the manifest of passengers.

Of course, that doesn't tell us much, if anything, but it does say that renewing old searches for information on the Internet can yield new things from time to time, as new information is posted everyday and the data banks continue to grow.

I would encourage everyone when they have a moment to moment to waste to do their own searches on whatever strikes their fancy that day and see what you come up with.  The more eyes looking from different perspectives the better.  If anyone finds something that might be of some significance, please post it here on the DGCF.  Who knows, we might be able to piece together a more complete story and create a better understanding yet.  --RJ--

All that I have read states that Louis Linkman started the company and named it for his wife!  Did I get bad information?

At least I think we solved this through an obscure magazine article.  The company apparently was started and named for Louis B. Linkman's MOTHER, Maria.  Only a coincidence that he later married a woman with the first name of Mary.

As time goes by, we are getting a better idea about things.  Now the problem for me is, getting all this info organized and straightened out and the facts sifted from our old speculations and sources that originally had the info wrong.

It saddens me when I come across Mike's old posts to realize he lost his battle with cancer and is no longer with us.  He had many interests in pipes beyond Dr. Grabow, but he was an enthusiastic supporter of the DGCF and provided us with good information, leads to pursue and things to think about.  --RJ--

These are parts of the Historical site which I have looked in:

http://www.chicagohs.org/research/resources/family

http://www.chicagohs.org/research/resources/architecture

Plenty of info available.  It would be surprising if something on Linkman and Regensburg didn't turn up.

Call a garage and tell them to come and get the truck.

Maybe just a coincidence, but in the early 70's UST had an Executive VP.. Ed Regensburg.
Children born into the tobacco business usually remain in the tobacco business. UST had a factory in Chicago.

Thanks for the work RJ and pete..

No way!  Not on this project that I can do myself and have some time to do -- probably only take a couple of hours and the only additional expense will be for a box of bandaids, antiseptic and dishwashing soap.  Just got all the parts I need and total came to about $170.  If I get a tow to a shop ($60 to $80), they will charge me close to $300 retail for the part and then labor on top of that.  We're probably talking a $400 or $500 bill.  That's a lot of PAD money!!!  --RJ--
