OS....Voted this morning and found Luther at the track walking. He is 81 or 82 and walks 4 miles a day.

He could not remember the Adventurer by name, but told me something I didn't know......In the late 50's and maybe even early 60's (before 64) Grabow did make unstamped pipes for customers. Never knew that, but it makes sense. Had to be a fairly large order, but was done.

Makes sense because the 64' Surgeon General's report on smoking made a LOT of new pipe smokers. 64'/ 65' were Grabow's largest production years, and they still couldn't keep up with orders. Had ,in late 64' or early 65', 444 employees.

Prior to 64' the business struggled except for the Reynolds coupon business and the Willards we made also for RJR.

We've both learned something today.....regards

So the Adventurer could have been produced unstamped at Sparta, and later stamped by the retail customer as their own line of pipe?

Dr.B....Yes, it seems so. That'll, as Tennessee Ernie Ford once said,....."throw a clod in yer churn".

Finally got around to working on this pipe. Stain is a home made concoction I read about on the pipe makers forum. Uses tea, vinegar and some rusty steel wool.I've tried it on a couple of pipes but ain't getting the same colors they are!!

I wonder if using the tea bag as the stain applicator might make a difference?

Anyone ever hear of a pipe called 'Adventurer"? It  says The same thing as  the Grabow Ajustomatic pipes and even uses the same style of script and has the Grabow patent number on it, I think I ran this one by RJ way back when but at the time he could nor tell me anything about it.

To this day, I still cannot tell you anything about it, and I haven;t seen another one, though I have never tried seraching the name ADVENTURER itself, which might make more hits.  Nice collection addition, OS!  --RJ--

When you do briefly put it on eBay, let me know!  --RJ--
