Awesome! Thx for sharing Ted.

Question: With such obvious excitement and enthusiasm, I wonder why such a lack of attention is paid to the official DrG website... In this day and age I would think this would be/should be a priority. IMO, there should be a blog area/comment area and an area where daily/weekly updates are posted to keep the site higher up on the Google search engine food chain. Links to this story should be there as an example... T'would be a boon to business , again IMO.

Cat and others. The  Surprised  Surprised  joy and happiness is feigned. Jim Burns wants to make a buck, and go home to New Zealand... Rick wants to retire... remember that I hired Rick... He don't seem to remember either.

There are 23 employees that I care deeply about... and will do everything in my limited power to keep them employeed... "Editorial comment".

I hope that there will be a group of "GRABOWITES" (like that word) in July... Maybe Jim Burns will not ignore us then.
$$$$$$ Maybe that'll make him understand.. Just Grumpy....... ted

Thanks for posting the link!  I enjoyed the news report.  It meant even more since I actually knew the employees in the video!  And the machines.  That certainly gives one a whole different perspective on it.

Your comments were interesting, so I have to admit, that while watching it, the first thing I thought was, "Everytime I see a "news" feature like this connected with other industries, it later seemed to have coincided with the sale of the business."  In other words, the timely appearance of a sudden news feature like this was no accident and almost seemed like the company involved must have contacted the news stations to do a story so they could get a free video made to woo prospective buyers or investors with.  I'm not saying that has happened here, but when ted stated this here, it echo sort of a general "feeling" I've had that made me think what I did as I watched the story.  Taking a step back from that, I'll have to say the piece was nicely done and it's good to see the publicity.  --RJ--

Great news piece. And yes the website needs some serious attention. More and more drug stores in my area have dropped the DRG line completely! Out of all the online retailers, only a few really highlight the brand with any decency.

With the lack of attention to the website, it proves to me they really are stuck in a marketing black hole. I don't want to see anyone loose their job or the factory close forever, but somebody at DRG needs to get it together. Far too long they've gotten a bad rap about being crap pipes........some of that is truth, but there is also a ton of misinformation out there too about the quality.

Why spend $30+ at the Rite Aid when for $20 more I can get a entey level Savinelli online.......with the Savinelli I get brand name recognition and I don't have to worry about uninformed people next to me making fun of me because I got a DRG pipe.

You can have the best value in pipes all day long, but if public perception is not in your corner, then you are screwed into eventually going out of business. Its the times we live in.

I typed this rant as I sit back and smoke McClleland Blue Mountain in a Royalton bulldog.  Damn fine pipe!

I wonder what the mark up is on the DrGs for the B&M/online retailers vs. the Savs/baskets/2nds etc? If Sparta gave these retailers more incentive to sell the DrGs, any loss would/should be overcome as more pipes would sell. (volume vs.margin) Get oldschool, put someone in a car and meet greet the owners/managers of the pipe and tobacco retailers and get them behind the brand. Good for them, DrG and American jobs.

Years ago (latter 90's) I purchased my first new Hyundai. I was kicking foreign and domestic tires. The Hyundai came with a note in the glovebox which paraphrased read:"We know we sent the US some crappy cars in the past. We made some mistakes. We want to change that. Thank you for test driving this car. If you buy it, please tell your friends." I purchased the car in large part because of that note and the guts behind it.  Look at Hyundai today. Maybe the good folks in Sparta need to do the similiar. Introduce or reintroduce new shapes, develop new marketing and POS etc. Work the phone and beat the street... It would work IMO.

Have the dates been set for the Factory 'tour' in 2012?  I'd like to make it again, if possible.  In my opinion it would be an irreplaceable loss to the world of Pipe smoking should the DG plant close down.  Not just for the historical value but the quality of the product.  I still maintain that outside of Sasieni, I would rather have a DG than any other brand.

Wildcat you hit the nail on the head.

They need to drop some of the filter pipe lines and produce a good ol fashion pipe with a regular push bit stem made from vulcanite or acrylic..... Standard shapes with decent sizes.......get the pipes in the hands of pipe shops like McCranie's, Iwan Ries and so on. Then they need to hit some big pipe shows like Chicago, Richmond, and so on. It can be done, they just need the will power to do it.

Its been a couple of years since Ive seen an actual invoice from DRG to a B&M, but the profit margin if I recall is thin. Depending on the pipe there is about a $5 to $15 markup on the pipes......it could be or less, like I said its been awhile.

Rite Aid and Walgreens are dead....they are not the future.

We're shooting for the third week of July. No firm date yet.

Just a "quickee".
Grabow sells their pipes at retail -50%.. -10%... A $30.00 pipe at retail cost the retailer $13.50...... Just sell more....... ted
