Actually from a Rockwell picture. But my little dog is my best buddy! |
It does actually look like you. I saw the picture of yourself that you posted on another forum. It was funny, because I have to say I pictured you like your avatar, and you actually look like it.

Got all of my burley stripped, rolled and cut earlier. Put it in a covered pyrex dish and stuck it in the oven-preheated to 200. Let it stay for 20 minutes and turned off the oven and left it till it cooled. Most of it is still rolled. I tried to cut some up in this rinky dink food chopper that the wife picked up at a garage sale. Only holds about a cup. All it would do is unroll the "coins" and wrap them around the blades.Ended up with a foot long ribbons!! Gonna let it dry on a cookie sheet over night and then try to cut or rub it out and then try adding some flavorings to some of it. _________________ The only thing shorter than my memory is a certain part of my anatomy! |

Seems like I recall you had one of yourself on this Forum quite a while back -- with your dog as you said. Am I imagining things? --RJ-- |

Casing and flavoring will be an experiment for all of you. Steve is probably the expert on this. I'm not. Molasses is used for Black Cavendish. I leave the flavoring to you. I'm just glad I could provide the "raw material".......ted |
What the . . .? This stuff (the reds, anyway) is GOOD! Didn't have much time, so just took out one red leaf. (Unlike the rest of you, this whole tobacco operation at my house has been carried on with the kind of secrecy that the first atom bomb was built at Los Alamos!). Cut the stem out and some of the veins. Since I was just doing a small bit, I just used scissors to repeatedly cut it, finally working up a little pile on the desk top, then continued to sort of fluff the pile and give the desk a "haircut". (Thankfully, I have read other's experiences on here and didn't get the blender out.)
I got it to a consistency I liked and just grabbed some up and started loading the bowl. I fired it up, and although some of it was still pretty damp, it lit right up and burned well. Man! Am I ever impressed! I am hard pressed to even describe it, and maybe it's the placebo effect, but I swear I actually got a bit of a buzz from it. Of course, that was probably helped when I was waving the bowl under my nose and trying to pick up the room note and ended up snorting a good shot.
What are my observations? Well, out of the bag I sort of got a nice tobacco smell, a little on the "planty" side. Maybe that's the barn essence. It loaded great and I only went for about three-quarters of a bowl (which took maybe about an eigth or less of the leaf I pulled) and tamped lightly and cautiously. Yielded nice smoke and at first blush, it made both my tongue and nose "tingle" -- that's the best I can describe it, because it definitely was NOT a bite and had no "pain" associated with it.
It smoked great, but I had to slow my puffing down. I actually sensed I was sort of getting a buzz, and I never get that. I thought my heart was pounding a bit, but I took my blood pressure and it actually was LOWER than it has ever been and the heart rate wasn't bad at all. I found that odd, since I have been drinking coffee all morning, too.
It's a nice, very mild smoke for me with just a hint of sweetness and maybe just that same hint of sweetness in the room note. As much as I like "flavors", I just can't describe how much I enjoyed this plain tobacco only smoking experience. I was enjoying it so much I actually got a bit giddy. There was definitely a smile on my face. Of all tobaccos I have smoked -- even those that more or less are plain Burley, there has been NOTHING to compare with this!
There will be NO flavoring and doctoring of my Burley! This is so rare for me, that I just can't bring myself to TAINT the "out of the field" Burley experience. This is something special for me and will be highly coveted and smoked on special occasions, but frequently. I am afraid that anything that I might do to it will only replicate the worst of the commercial tobaccos, complete with bite, etc. I MIGHT blend a bit of the grades together.
Thanks, TED! Thanks so much for setting aside some of this Burley and sending it to me! --RJ--
