And put a little upward bend in your pipe cleaner-usually does the trick.

Are you going straight into the shank? On mine, the draft hole is drilled towards the front of the shank, angled into the bowl.

Confused

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to clean the bent version of this pipe. Specifically, the draft hole. I cannot find it. Period. I have searched with a pipe cleaner for half-an hour and came up with nothing. This must be the tightest draft hole ever concieved. It smokes great, but if that whole gets clogged, I'm completely SOL.

Any tips?

Maybe this is a stupid question...but did you remove the stem, or were you pushing the pipe cleaner all the way down the stem?  OH...and is there a filter in there?

After the pipe cools, pull the stem off, and put a slight upward bend on the pipe cleaner as the previous poster mentioned.

I'm quite taken with the 1812...those of you that have had them for a while. Worth having?

Thanks

In all actuality, for me, it's just another bent Grabow that I like. It smokes like any other. But for the uniqueness... brass band, the stamping... it's a nice addition the my 37/47 family.

I did find another Grabow at a junktique shop over the weekend with the same brass band. I didn't get it but it's the only other Grabow I've seen with a solid brass band.

Love those bent 37s...I'll take em off your hands if you find ones you'd like to sell.

So the 1812 would be for posterity, nothing special?

For me, it's posterity I guess. But that's just me. Very Happy

I guess the best way to put it is.. I didn't need it since I have plenty in that shape... but at the same time.. I didn't have that one. Very Happy

If you're having trouble finding the air channel through the shank, try this: With the stem removed take a straightened out paper clip and try to find the air channel with the wire. It may be way off the center, usually high, of the mortise so just keep probing with the wire until you hit it. The paper clip wire is fine enough to find it and strong enough to punch anything out of the air channel into the bowl. Once you get the wire working good going in and out of the air channel you can switch to a pipe cleaner, etc. Dave
