Thanks to Ozark Southpaw for informing me abut this forum. I'm not a collector - although I seem to collect a lot of things. After I was retired for about two years and bored, I formed a hobby of buying and cleaning pipes and selling them on e-bay. Keeps me busy and I enjoy restoring them and learning about them.
I smoked a pipe when I was at home and had time but also smoked a couple of packs of cigarettes a day when I was working.
Now its mostly pipes. I culled my personal rotation to 70 and am trying to keep it at that reasonable level.
I'm always looking for information so I can tell people something about the pipes I sell. After all, what is a pipe without a tale to tell? How would someone know they have something special when they buy a Sasieni unless they know about Joel and his son Albert?
I have several Dr. Grabow's but two are among my favorites, a Hillcrest and a Westbrook and I wouldn't trade either of them for a Dunhill!
I maintain that you don't need to spend a lot of money to get a good pipe. the very success of Grabow, Kaywoodie, Medico proves that.
On the other hand, I do love my Webers and Ehrlich's, Peterson's and Sasieni's, WDC's and Brighams.
Anyway, glad I've found the forum. Hope I don't bore everyone and I'll try not to ask too many questions about the many Grabow's I get in the lots of Pipes I buy. |

Again welcome. I don't know about you, but I hate eBay but love to see offers up in the "Trading Post" especially bent bullsdogs ; ) |

Welcome to the Forum, Irishlefty, and I love eBay.
I don't browse and shop there often, but this DG hobby/interest couldn't have gotten off the ground without the resources eBay provided. Back when Mac & I began communicating in 2005, there was very little accurate knowledge about DG in the sellers' descriptions. I see that is changing. And so is the perceived value of vintage DG pipes.
Sellers could explain details about Sasieni, Peterson, and Kaywoodie pipes down to the smallest things, but couldn't explain even what decade their Grand Duke came from, or who made it. They'd see patent #2,461,905 stamped on the pipe, and figure every DG ajustomatic was made in 1949. |

Welcome Lefty!! I'm glad you decided to join us !! I do enjoy reading your listings. By reading them and some of the other sellers I have picked up quite a bit about pipes. Questions are always welcome here I've found!! _________________ The only thing shorter than my memory is a certain part of my anatomy! |

Irishlefty for those of you that have not bought from his site before has great service and is a pleasure to deal with, I highly recommend him. By the way I have no affiliation with him but am only a very satisfied customer having made quite a few transactions with Irishlefty.

Thanks for the warm welcome. As some of you know I like to tell a bit about each pipe I sell. That is a lot easier with most established companies except for the American 'giants' - DG, Medico, Kaywoodie, although Kaywoodie's are easier to find info on.
RJ McKay's site has been a godsend in that regard. There is so much to learn and so many lines over so many years.
Try to summarize the history and richness of the Dr. Grabow story in a few words. Maybe some of you can do that but hell, it takes me 200 words just to say hello.
I hope to be able to read and learn.
Thanks again for the welcome. |

| Hello IL and welcome - I think I've bought one or two pipes from you and have always been happy with them. I have purchased from many Ebayers but this is slowing down now that many will no longer take money orders (I don't use paypal but once in a blue moon). At any rate, glad to have you and look forward to your posts. |

I personally think it was just one more bad decision by e-bay to limit purchases to paypal. I still accept Money Orders, just can't say so on the e-bay site.
