Shall we keep this thread open and see what happens?

Sure, why not?  It will either get a life of it's own or it will die a natural death... lol.

Jim,

I've been thinking of a group buy as well, perhaps a Royalton or Freehand.  I prefer smooth, but wouldn't turn down carved ones.  Would be very cool if we could arrange for a pipe stamped with something like "DGCF Edition".

Just call them directly, instead of the etailers, they will give you the best deal factory direct.

Yup, yup... the nice lady will even send you an order sheet if you want to do it that way. You can even order pipe cleaners. I made several new DG purchases last year and will do so again this year to support the company. I from the factory and one from P&C on  visit there.

Just a thought... while ordering direct from the factory is cool and affordable, ordering from say http://www.jrcigars.com/jr/index.cfm or some such as a group or individually would encourage retailers to order more from Sparta, which helps too. Again just a thought.

Also, I found that JR Gigars has a good selection and is a bit more specific on what you are ordering vs other etailers.

Also, I notice that at many Etailers, what shape you actually get is not actually specified, only the finish.

This is annoying, to say the least.  The only etailer I'm aware of that lets you pick specifically is wvsmokeshop.com.  The two I ordered from them were exactly as pictured.

I even mail ordered from the factory and got one pipe not exactly what I was expecting - I ordered a smooth Big Pipe, and expected it to be perfectly smooth like the one pictured on the website, but it ended up having some "swirl" carvings in the rim and some "leaf" carvings on the bowl.  It's a great pipe, and I'm happy with it....nonetheless, it was a mild annoyance that it wasn't really what I was expecting.

Every other pipe you buy online, you're buying the exact pipe in the picture.  Why can't etailers do this with DGs?

Guys, it's best to call before you do the order form and send a check in.  Don't think they've got any Royalton bents (for instance) at the factory - I was just there a month ago; but you can still find the bent smooth Royalton at certain eStores and from 1 eBay seller as well.  If you call factory to verify what they've got, they're are super nice and helpful.  They enjoy hearing from forum members.  If you order a pipe, don't forget you can also mail in your estate pipes needing stems; $10.50 each, and they also buff your pipe as well.

They had a DGCF stamp made once, back in 2010.
The picture probably won't do it justice, but I'm posting anyway.

Don't know if anyone has tried to get the factory to do another one for us though. Been out of the loop for a while.
