Also, compared to the Omega how would you rate the Wellingtons? If I remember correctly, Wellingtons are non-filtered pipes. I'm thinking of getting a Wellington, but if I'm not getting a "better" or at least equal in quality pipe as the Omega I might forgo getting one?? |
Rev, I've never smoked my Omegas with out the filter. I have accidently smoked other Grabows without the filter, and don't much care for it. The draw just isn't the same. I have no problem smoking a non-filter pipe, in fact many times I prefer a non-filter for some tobacco or when I am just smoking to smoke. When I am working or reading, I prefer the filtered pipe. All my filter pipes burn long, slow, cool and dry.
It's hard to compare this Wellington to my Omega because it is so small. It is a good smoke though. It is a well made pipe. I think the band is actually real silver. It was tarnished and polished right up. I would like to get a look at a full size Wellington. I don't think you would be disappointed with one.

I hadn't either until last night and this morning. I think I like it a little better without -- at least for right now . It burns and draws really well. I do like it with the filter too though.
I think I might give a Wellington a try. Have to win one first though _________________ Rev. Avery |

| Of course there have been many different styles of Wellingtons produced, but they seem to be best known for their larger pipes. It is not uncommon at all to find one with an overall length of 9 or 10 inches. Monarchist on the Christian Pipe Smokers board has picked up several of these and likes them quite a bit, so they're apparently good smokers. |

Yes Steve, I has seen some of the longer ones. They are interesting for sure.
Is there some advantage in the smoking experience with the longer stems? _________________ Rev. Avery |

| I would say no, but I have not tried one so don't necessarily put any stock in my opinion. It is said somewhat frequently that the long stem of a churchwarden helps cool the smoke, but I've read just as many who say it doesn't make a difference. Guess you'll have to snag one and try it! |

I smoke all my filter Grabows without the filters. I don't really know why I started to do it, but I haven't noticed any adverse affects. It's just one less thing to buy.
As far as longer stems smoking cooler - I hear this said all the time. I have a couple of church wardens and they are great smokers, but I don't know if I can say they smoke cooler. Maybe my senses are not as refined as others. _________________ If you save up all your pennies and you put away your rocks, you'll always have tobaccy in your old tobaccy box |

| I can testify that you cannot multi-task while smoking long-stemmed pipes. |

Individual option. Depends on the diameter of the pipe's airway, packing the bowl, smoker's technique, etc.
Generally I smoke filtered pipes with part of a filter (1/2 or 1/3), but sometimes I smoke non-filter. I recently stopped smoking with a full filter.
My $0.02 worth - if you smoke a pipe heavily and frequently without resting, use a filter. All that moisture has to go someplace. Better in the filter than in the briar. |

Dr I assume you cut down the filter?
I've tried that too but my filter slides around when I draw. Does that happen to you?
Generally, I rest my pipes between smokes. Also, my tobacco isn't moist. I think that helps the moisture issue to some degree. _________________ Rev. Avery |

I smoke all my Dr Grabows without filters and love them. I do find that the filter slightly retricts the smoke and I just prefer without the filter, but thats me
