For those of you who smoke THE PRINCE.....I've got to say this.......

From about 1955 till 1992 EVERY Grabow was Pre-Smoked with PA. Your pipes will probably remember their FIRST .....most of us do....., so enjoy THE PRINCE. He's been a part of Grabow history for a long while.

We used to deliver 14 to 18 thousand Willards to RJR every month. On one trip a month we picked up a ton of PA, packed in 25 pound corrigated boxes....no plastic liner, no protection. We needed it a bit dry and smoked a few pipes with it.

I guess that's why most of the employees in the 60's smoked PA...It was free..sort of...I once ran out on a Saturday morning and found it to be dry and hot........ted

Out of the tub, it's great.  I am the world's worst at trying to describe the "note" or flavor, but I venture to say it gives me just the slightest hint of something peachy and a slightly sweet room note.  Whatever they added to it is pretty subtle.  If I could choose just one tobacco for the rest of my days, I'd probably make it PA.  Unlike some tobaccos, I've had no problem with it drying out too much on me.  Carter Hall gives it a good run for the money, but just a bit stronger in flavor.  When the tub is first opened it has a nice and very strong smell -- I want to say some sort of brandy, but I am at a complete loss to say just what it is.  Not whiskey, anyway.

My old Linkman's tend to like their "first", Edgeworth . . . --RJ--

Learn something new every day. I thought they were all pre smoked with Edgeworth. Didn't know they switched to PA. I will say my Grabows see a decent bit of both. Well, at least they do now. Only got half a tub left of Edgeworth.

RJ, I'm not a good reviewer either, but I can see peachy being used for PA....

The change came with the acquisition of Dr. Grabow by HL&T and the "move" to Sparta from Chicago.  In the latter days at Chicago they might have used something else also, but all I have ever seen mentioned was Edgeworth.  --RJ--

Well No wonder PA is so good in a Dr. G! PA is my favorite OTC so far, remember the old ads? "P.A. stands for Pipe Appeal baby!"

PA is my go to smoke-I like not thinking too  hard about what is in my pipe sometimes. It is also readily available, even here in Hilo, Hawaii. The price is right as well. Carter Hall is good too, I just like the Prince better for some reason. Granger and Borkum Riff bite me no matter what-must be a body chemistry thing.

By the way, "WELCOME"!  Your mentioning of PA may me opt for a bowl on my 03 shape late model Dr. Grabow Special with yellow stem and spade outline stamped in.  Very enjoyable.

I think you are right about the "body chemistry" thing.  I believe that most "bite" is a chemical reaction to the individual smoker.  Granger bites me, too!  Different smokers get different sensations from different tobaccos and that's about it in a nutshell.  --RJ--

That's interesting about the bite issue.  There are some that bite me and I can't figure out why.  It seems I'm especially sensitive to aromatics.

PA is really growing on me, I must say.  Just had a bowl tonight.  Very enjoyable ... again.  I think in part because it's a basic, consistent smoke and it doesn't bite.  Also, I don't like either having to think too hard about what's in my pipe.  That was a great statememt   Smile

I have to agree with RJ about bite being an individual thing.  For whatever reason some tobacco's bite me that others consider mild.  I do have allergies, specifically to grasses and trees so if I'm in an area near olive trees, for example, I will start to sneeze - an allergy pill with take care of it in about 10 minutes.

I've been trying to narrow down which tobacco's I'm allergic to - I think 'bright' is one of them.  I have a friend who gave me a toke on a joint.  I hadn't smoke one in years and boy, did I have a violent reaction!  Years ago that would have really been a bummer but now, I don't care much about that one.
