Ahgar, I've redressed the metal rim thinking that was the source, but haven't addressed the deeper rim you are describing.

Was your OMEGA still warm from smoking when it broke?

I agree with you. These look more like cuts than breaks, and they feel more like cuts than stress fractures.

I'd say my omega had been sitting on the counter for at least 45 min. I think it should have been cool.I'm just wondering if I dress down that inner ridge will the band fall off. What do you think? Mine smokes too well to give up on but I don't want to have to buy a stem every 6 months.

I think the ultimate answer may be to buy older ones with vulcanite stems. Or maybe a later IP&A made one.  --RJ--

You're probably right but it's become a quest to figure out what's going on  it's too good a pipe to give up on. I'll let you guys know what I find.

Won't be that big of a problem. I've had only 2 or 3 break in about 5 years, and many Omega owners haven't had any break.

That's a better record than many other pipes I've had.

I'm curious if breakage is still a problem with the new Omega's. If it is, would buying a Full Bent or a Savoy be a better option? Of course, my brain says get all three.  Very Happy
