I recently saw a post about Peterson new line of the pipes on rebornpipes

The Valentia.

Here is a snippet
The six shapes comprising the new Valentia line all continue Peterson’s commitment to an idea that began back about 1945 with the Specialty quartet of pipes known as the Tankard & Barrel, Calabash & Belgique seen below.  The Italians have always liked to call small pipes like these “Lady Pipes,” and I can see how Jackie Onassis could have tucked one of these away in her purse when out and about with JFK.*

Well i knew Jack Kennedy smoked a pipe on occasion but never knew Jackie was a smoker ( cigs and pipes). It peaked my interest so i did a google search on the matter and found this article about what she carried in her purse. I found it interesting and thought maybe others would as well.

John F. Kennedy smoking a pipe at camp David. He preferred cigars.

Jackie smoking a cig , pics of her smoking were banned from  being printed when she was 1st lady so most were personal collections that has survived.
No known pictures of her smoking a pipe.

I could find no mention of the blends they liked to smoke in a pipe.

Please i ask ,do not turn this post into a political or assassination debate.

There are plenty of forums for those can's of worms.

I suspect there were more female pipe smokers than we know. It just wasn't made public much in the 20th Century particularly when cigarette smoking was considered cool.

I once interviewed a 104-year-old woman here in Florida who lived near a Civil War battlefield as a child of 4 when a big battle was fought where the Confederates kicked the Union's butt in the War of Northern Aggression. All during the interview on her front porch she sat in a rocking chair with an apron on and hand one hand hidden under the apron. Finally, when I asked if it was alright for me to smoke, she smiled and said, "Please" and pulled her hand out from under the apron. She had a corncob pipe in her hand loaded with her favorite "white burley" and fired it up. She said she smoked it regularly but realized it wasn't "lady like" in polite society!

My grandma always tried to hide her snuff dipping out of public. She didn't mind us family too much , in fact she would make me and my brothers go to the local country store and pick her up her some Navy Sweet Scotch Snuff so she would not be embarrassed to buy it herself.

I knew JFK smoked cigars. He ordered up several thousand Cubans with the candella wrapper he prefered right before he started the embargo on Cuban products. Photographers were not allowed to take photographs of him smoking cigars. It did not fit into the manufactured image of "Camelot" and vibrant youth leading the world the spin factory set out. A stogie clenched in his pearly white teeth would just not fit the narrative. It worked for Churchill but he was old and used a cane. In a lot of pictures he has one hand not visible because there was a cigar smoldering safely out of sight. Much to the chagrin of the fedora manufacturers he pioneered the bare head in public and flounted his red locks for all the world to admire and envy. Jackie got her licks in with the pillbox hat every lady and true American damsel had to own. Now we have politicians who cut their teeth on Marlboro lights and marijuana. Mr. Kennedy was a man of his times. It was probably a hard thing for him to live up to our expectations of him as it is for any president. The same games go on today, sorry to say. I sometimes believe politicians think we are a nation of mushrooms. Keep us in the dark and feed us bullcrap. If JFK and Jackie wanted to smoke it was their business. We wouldn't have held it against them. There are no bad presidents, only bad PR people and spin doctors.

I didn't mean we have never had some bad presidents Rich. We have had some real doozies. I was commenting on their PR teams. I could relate to JFK being a cigar smoker and would have thought nothing of it. Obama would not have had to hide his Marlboros from us and Ford could smoke his pipe to his hearts content. If Jackie K. had appeared with a huge Dunhill clenched in her jaw pipe sales among women would have soared. Its all in the proper spin being put on it. I realize we have had some bad presidents. I often regret ever voting for Millard Fillmore. Laughing
