I sure have been wanting a freehand, I've found 2 or 3 locally in smoke
shops, but not exactly what I want. I want the Smooth polish finish
in a Bent Configuration, All the ones I've found are carved.
How long has DG been making these? I often wondered if they were imported, and assembled here. I've got some great tobacco's here
that I'd like to dedicate 1 to a new Freehand
also, I sure like this forum, ton's of info and much more casual & less restrictive

Hope you find your smooth FREEHAND, Dave. Maybe one of our delegates will find one for you at the DG factory.
The DG FREEHAND is definitely US made (NC is back in the US, isn't it?). Their ancestry traces back to Israel however. Ted can explain better.
Glad you're enjoying the forum. Certainly is a small bunch of nice folks. |

Dave....Yes NC is still a part of the US. Maybe a much smaller part than Texas, but still here.
The Grabow freehands were made here in Sparta. They were copies of a Mastersen and Anderson freehand that were made in Israel. US Tobacco owned both Grabow (from 69) and Mastercraft (from 72). Mastercraft was purchased from Bernard Hochstein and his soms formed a pipe factory in Tel Aviv.....Shalom....They made the originals.
Mastersen was sold to Brown and Williamson as a redemption pipe with SWR tobacco. Anderson was sold by Mastercraft. I see one occasiionally on ebay.
Grabow liked the idea and started making their versions in about 80'. Wonderful pipes. If you can find a sandblast, you'll be really happy with it. That's what I've smoked all day. Bent dublin. I can't remember the number for sure, but think it is 07. Regards....ted |

I came across these two in my 'stockpile' that I have yet to clean up - except for some pronounced teethmarks on the stem, they are in pretty good shape. I was planning to clean them and list on e-bay next weekend. If you are interested in one or both, I list Freehands for $12.99 plus postage but without the listing and selling fees I could let them go for $10 each. Anyone interested, PM me.

That one really looks to be in nice shape. I just got my first freehand the other day on ebay.
