We/Mastercraft had a salesman. Pat Patterson. Pat sang with the Benny Goodman band in the 50's. Pat and his dear wife Rena lived in Clearwater, FL. Just off US 60..and had a summer home in Blowing Rock, NC.
Pat and Rena invited the whole "crew" at Mastercraft to a BBQ in Blowing Rock.. We had 18 people that wanted to go. Our only transportation for that many was a 1980 Ford Econoline Van that Grabow used as a mail truck.... empty in the back!.

I suggested that everyone bring a lawn chair for the 60 mile ride on NC crooked roads. Sure enough........ 16 lawn chairs.... in the back of a "slick floored" van.  Every curve was an adventure for those in the back. The employees met one-another in ways that are un-imaginable as they slid across the floor.Tracy didn't grab my knee... She grabbed for anything sturdy though. We got there. Pat and Rena had a feast for us and we all had a great time and made it back.

Pat died a year later of Colon Cancer. I went to Clearwater along with many of his friends from UST to be there for Pat and Rena. Pat weighed 320 when I last saw him...that day he was 125.  Quite an impression.

Colon Cancer will kill you! Over 50...get a colonoscopy. I've had 5 with another scheduled for May. Many pre-cancerous polops removed. Colon Cancer will not kill me. Y'all join me............... td

I lost my Mother-in-law to colon cancer it's devastating....  Good advice on colonoscopy!

Those in the back of the truck would be like BBs in a boxcar.  Funny to watch not too sure much fun to participate...

I can imagine what a trip that was. Thanks for the Tom, and I know it's a cherished memory.

That back of the truck in a lawn chair isn't too bad down here in flat land Florida but I can't imagine what it would be like in the North Carolina hills especially in a county that has no four-lane highways and more twists in the road than an Everglades boa trying to swallow a wild hog! Had to be like one of those flights when you hit heavy turbulence and all the overhead bins pop open and empty themselves - without seat belts no less! Would make a colonoscopy seem like a piece of cake! I get them regularly because the doctors call me a "polop factory" and we have routed out many pre-cancerous ones. The worst one was when they forgot to write the meds for me and I volunteered to have it done without any medication. On second thought, that might have been like riding through the North Carolina hills in a lawn chair in the back of an Econoline van! It was a real trip!

Great story.  I used to drive a hollow early 80's Econoline van around full of medical equipment. I can only imagine the 16 lawn chairs part!  That had to be a hoot.  I'd have been one of them.

Another great story and good advice as well. Very Happy My Doctor told me that the roto-rooter thing she suggested was like a colonoscopy for my nose. Never having had one, the comparison was lost on me. But I will put it on my to-do list for sure.
